AU students craving some fresh air are in luck. Fort Reno is less than a 10 minute walk from the Tenleytown Metro stop and a perfect location for an impromptu picnic. What’s more? With a Whole Foods, Chipotle and Cava Mezze Grill in the area, you don’t even have to pack your own food.
2. Georgetown Waterfront Park

If you’re in the mood for a quaint afternoon, hop on a bus to Georgetown for the perfect picnic spot. This park curves along the Potomac and is a favorite spot of cyclists and joggers alike. Watch boats float by while enjoying a light salad. Just be sure to save room for dessert at the famed Baked and Wired.
3. Rock Creek Park

Head over to Rock Creek Park for a full day of outdoor recreation. Jump around the park’s sports venues, nature exhibits, and cultural displays before settling down in one of the over 30 picnic areas. If you manage to snag one with a barbeque pit, celebrate by toasting up inventive variations on the classic s’more.
4. Gravelly Point

Gravelly Point is the perfect spot to bring your sweetie for an evening straight out of an indie flick. Snack on your favorite wine and cheese pairings while you wait for the sun to set. Then, once it’s dark, lay back and watch Reagan National’s planes come and go as if they are shooting stars.
5. National Mall

Did you really think you’d get through a list of DC picnic spots without encountering this popular haunt? Sure, it may seem like a bit of a tourist trap, but the National Mall is the perfect spot for an afternoon of people watching.
Pack a basket of classic picnic fare like sandwiches and fresh fruit, and prepare yourself for a few laughs as you watch tourists try to navigate the city you’ve come to know so well.
