I have two obvious beige flags: I’m easily influenced, and I’m always down to try a Starbucks secret menu drink, no matter how unusual it seems. So when I saw the coffee company’s recent post about Starbucks Cherry Matcha Latte, which garnered 1.4 million views and nearly 350,000 likes, I knew I had to try the viral drink hack for myself.
What is the Starbucks Cherry Matcha Latte?
While the Starbucks Cherry Matcha Latte isn’t an official menu item, it does combine a permanent menu item with a seasonal fan-favorite: Cherry Cream Cold Foam. Though the new flavor of cold foam was originally debuted as part of the Iced Cherry Chai on the Starbucks spring menu, the cold foam can be added to just about any drink — including a matcha latte.
I love the new unsweetened Starbucks matcha formula and how customizable it is, so I can add flavored syrups or cold foams without the drink being overly sweet from the green tea base. In addition to adding mocha syrup for a Dubai Chocolate twist or even just a few pumps of vanilla, I’ve been a huge fan of the Iced Lavender Cream Matcha Latte for spring. But, after trying it, the Starbucks Cherry Matcha might be my new go-to spring beverage.
How do I order the Starbucks Cherry Matcha Latte?
This Starbucks secret menu item is almost too simple to order: just order a Starbucks Iced Matcha Latte in your ideal size with your milk of choice, and ask your barista to add Cherry Cream Cold Foam on top. Voila: a Starbucks Cherry Matcha.
What does the Starbucks Cherry Matcha Latte taste like?
Even though my drink looked lackluster and the amount of cold foam was minimal, Starbucks was right — this secret menu drink is a must-try. The sweet and juicy flavor of the Cherry Cream Cold Foam pairs so well with the deep and earthy matcha. The drink is the perfect balance of springtime florals and refreshing sweetness, and a fantastic upgrade to an already-delicious matcha latte.
My only grievance is personal preference: I love fresh fruit but don’t love fruity flavors, like strawberry or cherry. That said, even though the cherry cold foam isn’t my favorite flavor, it speaks volumes that I loved this drink. The cold foam just paired so well with the matcha, and I’m officially a convert.
How much does the Starbucks Cherry Matcha Latte cost?
I ordered a Grande Iced Matcha Latte with almond milk — luckily, the dairy-free milk doesn’t cost extra anymore — and added the Cherry Cream Cold Foam, which came out to $7.50.
While this may seem like a steep price for a matcha latte, it isn’t too bad of a price considering the customizations (and taking NYC prices into consideration). The Iced Matcha Latte solo costs $6.25, and adding any cold foam costs an extra $1.25, so if you’re a fan of either flavor, it’s definitely worth a try.
