I Tried Ridge Rush, OLIPOP’s New Mountain Dew Dupe

OLIPOP — the gut-friendly soda brand — has a lineup full of takes on fizzy classics including root beer, cream soda, classic cola, grape, and lemon-lime, plus its version of Dr. Pepper. Now, the better-for-you soda brand has announced Ridge Rush, which seems to be a not-so-subtle spin on PepsiCo’s classic Mountain Dew

Though Coca-Cola and Pepsi have dominated the soda industry for awhile, Mountain Dew arguably has a cult-following. It only makes sense that OLIPOP releases what sure does seem like a dupe of the electric green drink that is lower sugar, packed with prebiotics for gut health, and caffeinated, but not so caffeinated that you’re, well, ready to scale mountains. Or should we say ridges?

What does OLIPOP Ridge Rush taste like?

OLIPOP describes Ridge Rush as “a fusion of lemon, lime, and orange juices” with 50 milligrams of natural green tea caffeine. Ridge Rush features OLIPOP’s signature high fiber formula with an added boost of natural caffeine for a refreshing, energizing bev to cure the midday slump.

According to OLIPOP, “The new flavor tastes like liquid electricity, with flavors of citrusy, lemon-lime goodness.” I’m not entirely sure what “liquid electricity” is supposed to taste like, but I did get a nice zing from the soda. TBH, it felt like brat summer in a can — it’s a perfect, lighter combo of 7UP, Mountain Dew, and Fresca vibes.  While it may not be as sweet as your typical soda, OLIPOP’s natural sweetness and unique flavor make it a refreshing and enjoyable option.

What’s the deal with OLIPOP’s prebiotics and fiber blend?

OLIPOP Ridge Rush contains a blend of prebiotic fibers that act as food for the beneficial bacteria in your gut, helping to promote a healthier microbiome. Plus, OLIPOP Ridge Rush contains a significant amount of plant fiber, which can contribute to digestive health, satiety, and overall well-being.

As a girlie with gut issues, I have to say that OLIPOP sat well with me, even though it’s packed with nine grams of fiber. Green Tea has never been my stomach’s bestie, I noticed that I didn’t have the terrible sour stomach feeling I sometimes get with tea — major win! And while I’m never giving up my Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar, I did love that Ridge Rush didn’t give me that aspartame bloat that I am, unfortunately, all too familiar with. Did OLIPOP cure my gut issues? No. But did it exacerbate the pre-existing ones? Also no. Two points for OLIPOP.

Where can I buy OLIPOP Ridge Rush?In August, OLIPOP teased the new flavor on social media with posts about “OLIPOP University,” offering to give away free cans to college students for the back-to-school season. Luckily, the secret is out: Ridge Rush is currently available for $2.49 per can and $35.99 per 12-pack on drinkOLIPOP.com, and will also be available in-stores in Walmart and Target nationwide.
