This summer’s been getting hotter than ever, and luckily for us, Starbucks is releasing two new tasty iced drinks to help us cool down. The Blue Coconut Refresher and the Ice Blue Coconut Matcha will be hitting your menus on June 16, and if you’re already wondering whether or not you absolutely need to try it, then I got you covered as I got an early taste.
What are the Starbucks blue coconut drinks?
The blue coconut drinks come as a collaboration with Water.org’s Get Blue initiative. With each sale, Starbucks is giving $0.25 towards bringing safe drinking water to people in need. Both drinks notably feature a striking blue color thanks to its inclusion of blue spirulina, a nutrient-dense blue algae that’s rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
The refresher combines coconut, strawberry, and açaí flavors shaken with ice and blue spirulina. The customer has the choice of the drink being made with water, lemonade, or coconut milk. And as with any other Starbucks refresher, caffeine can be added accordingly if you need the extra boost of energy.
The matcha on the other hand has a special tropical and creamy flavor, mostly tasting of your typical Starbucks matcha, sweet mango, and the blue spirulina-infused toasted coconut cold foam.
What did I think of the Starbucks blue coconut drinks?
When I received the two drinks from my local starbucks, my honest first impression was that they were so much more blue than I expected. Obviously, it’s in the name but man, were they blue.
Regardless, I tried the refresher first and at first taste, it really tastes like most of the other Starbucks refreshers. It’s cold, it’s refreshing, and it’s really tasty. Honestly, I love most of the Starbucks refreshers, especially the mango and strawberry one from their last drop, so it’s no surprise that I liked this one. The coconut flavor is not super strong, mostly coming as more of an aftertaste following the initial sweet, refresher taste.
As for the blue coconut matcha, I have to say, I’m completely biased when I say that I didn’t like it because frankly, I don’t like any matcha. Instead, I had my girlfriend try it and she absolutely loved it. The toasted coconut cold foam is thick and sweet, and it perfectly complements the matcha beneath it.
Should you try the blue coconut drinks from Starbucks?
In my opinion, you should absolutely go and try these two drinks out yourself. They’re not too different from the other refreshers and matcha’s on the Starbucks menu, so if you’re already a fan of the other drinks, then it’s likely that you will be a fan of these too. But not only are they pretty delicious, it’s also supporting a great cause through Water.org. So if you’re craving a cold drink on June 16, don’t be afraid to head to your local Starbucks and give the blue coconut drinks a try.
