Mexican is one of my favorite international cuisines. Whether it’s an ensalada or chowing down on carnitas, there’s something satisfying about a good Mexican meal. I get excited just thinking about all of the flavors and the refreshing and intoxicating beverages to sip on the side, like horchata and margaritas.
In Southern California, there are many Mexican spots to check out and Los Primos Cantina is one of the best. An unsuspecting hole in the wall in Costa Mesa, CA, it doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you walk into the small space, you are instantly overwhelmed by the aroma of real-deal Mexican food. If you weren’t hungry before you walked in, you will be now.
The menu offers your standard fare of Mexican food as well as a variety of extra delicious and awesome dishes like their Gringo Burrito made with fries, bacon and eggs, or the Dr. Carlos Famous Vegetarian Burrito that is so large, it necessitates two tortillas to keep all of the deliciousness inside.
The real MVP, however, is the Nacho Loco. These nachos are unlike any other, mostly because they are not nachos at all but rather fries, and a lot of them, covered in copious amounts of typical nacho toppings.
First, the overwhelming mountain of fries covered in handfuls (seriously, handfuls) of melted cheese, your choice of meat, guacamole, two heaping scoops of sour cream and you’ve got an incredible culinary twist on nachos that could easily last for multiple meals or serve as a sharing dish for four. All of this for only $4.99!
This nacho extravaganza is not to be missed, schedule a visit for your next cheat day.
