Soft, moist, flavorful cake paired with sweet icing is a perfect description for each cupcake at Twelve Baskets, located in Bryn Mawr. This new cupcake hotspot innovates on traditional cupcake flavors by adding a new Asian-inspired tang that I like to call cross cultural cupcakes.
These Asian-fusion treats may sound a bit odd, but after speaking with co-owners and cousins, Pauline Han and Michelle Lee, I became intrigued with their innovation. Harnessing their creativity, they combined their favorite dessert with traditional Asian flavors to create amazing cross-cultural cupcakes.
A best seller, the Miso Caramel Apple cupcake, offers a new take on the classic favorite salted caramel. By combining the salty flavor of miso with the sweet flavor of caramel, and succulent flavor of real apples, this amazing cupcake is definitely a must-try.
As an avid green tea drinker, my favorite cupcake was naturally A Matcha Made in Heaven. The matcha flavored cake held a homemade mochi inside (YUM) and was topped with a cool and refreshing green tea frosting.
Still not convinced? If these flavors don’t have your mouth watering, or if your taste buds aren’t feeling too adventurous, opt for their equally awesome chocolatey chocolate or vanilla on chocolate cupcake. You won’t be sorry you paid them a visit, so go have one! (Or if you’re like me… have five.)
The Farmers Market, where Twelve Cupcakes is located is open from Wednesday-Sunday, and show your student ID to get a 10% discount on Wednesdays.
