AA Restaurant News

Ann Arbor is an underrated foodie city, and is home to a number of cool and unique restaurants. That being said, not every restaurant franchise can survive here, due to the tough competition from local favorites. In the next few months, a number of restaurants in A2 will be opening, re-opening, closing and moving. To end the rumors, here is a quick and easy round up of which spots are opening up shop and which are really calling it quits.

Closing

Firehouse Subs:

Located on E. William Street, the sub shop has officially closed its doors after just ten months on campus. It seems the sandwiches couldn’t compete with the other deli spots in Ann Arbor, like Zingerman’s and Maize n’ Blue.

Re-Opening

Bubble Island:

The South U spot known for their bubble tea was originally planning to re-open in early March after a water pipe broke in December, but is seems the reopening has been delayed until April.

Blue Leprechaun:

The South U bar has been under renovations, but plans to reopen at end of March or beginning of April (seniors rejoice!).

RJ’s Coney Island:

The State Street spot has closed without warning, and no one is answering their phones… perhaps the sudden closing is related to their name change this summer? A sign has been posted on the door reading, “Bistro coming soon.”

Grand Opening

Menna’s Joint:

This Michigan-based burrito restaurant signed a lease to open in the former Toppers Pizza space, located next to the old Firehouse Subs. The restaurant calls their burritos (or grilled, wrapped sandwiches) “dubs,” and the restaurant plans to offer dine-in, take out and delivery options. There is no word yet on the opening date.

Moving

The beloved vegetarian restaurant has officially closed their E. Liberty location as of March 15th, but there is no need for panic. The restaurant is moving to a new space on Jackson Road as quickly as possible, and a grand opening date should be announced soon.
