Tucked on the corner of 10th and Indiana, Yogi’s is situated away from most of the Bloomington local bars. Don’t let the location deceive you.

The unassuming exterior belies a spacious and inviting interior. The atmosphere is lively, but not overcrowded, allowing you to actually hear your friends without having to yell. The sit-down restaurant area has high windows that let in sunlight during the day, lending a cheery mood. Yogi’s, in my book, qualifies as one of the most underrated bars in Bloomington.

They boast an impressively large draft beer selection, and unlike most bars, they actually give you ratings from both RateBeer and BeerAdvocate, in addition to the type of beer, brewery location and alcohol by volume.

On the list are a variety of brews from Three Floyds, including Zombie Dust, which has been deemed the world’s best pale ale. The light and fruity flavors balance the bitter afternotes. It does not disappoint (mind you, this is coming from a girl who normally can’t stand pale ales). Other beers that have proved popular include the stouts from Founders and the choices from Bell’s, both of which are brewed in Michigan.

Because Yogi’s is also a grill, their food is higher quality than what you would find at most bars. Their wings are tender, juicy and have a decent kick, keeping them up there with other Bloomington favorites like BuffaLouie’s.

Other recommended menu items are their wraps, burgers and quesadillas. They also have a root beer float that hits you right in your nostalgic sweet tooth (in fact, we scarfed it down so quickly we forgot to get a picture). If you’re feeling brave, you can even try it with real beer (my bet is that it would work best with a stout). Oh, and they have root beer on tap. What other bar do you know has root beer on tap?

The late night happy hour specials mean that you can get bar food for super cheap, perfect for when you’ve had a few and are craving a savory snack.

They  have weekend drink specials to boot, including $3 Patron Incendio shots every Friday. When we went, there were girls walking around handing out free Captain and Coke.

If you need more convincing, every Thursday from 9pm-11pm is Trivia Night. Top three teams receive $10, $25 and $50 Yogi’s gift cards. Plus who doesn’t love some alcohol-related pun team names? (Our favorite was Tequila Mockingbird).

In case you were curious, a yogi is a practitioner of yoga. So forget yoga class and get yourself a beer at Yogi’s instead.
