The Hamptons and New York City are known for restaurants with delicious food and trendy vibes. People from all over the world come to these areas seeking fresh seafood, kickass pizza and killer bagels. New York has so much more to offer than just these three. If you love great food, there’s one place you must try before you kick the bucket: Hampton Chutney Co., an irresistible Indian restaurant.

With locations in Amagansett, SoHo, and the West Side of Manhattan, this is not your typical sit-down restaurant with a hostess and waitress. Instead, you order your food at the counter and they call your name when it’s ready. At the Amagansett location, you may sit and eat your beyond-delicious meal on a picnic bench in the beautiful town square where the restaurant is located. If you’re in the city, you may get the Indian goodness delivered right to your doorstep. What’s better than that?

So, what’s the catch? The dosa. The establishment is famous for their dosa, a unique Indian crepe made of rice and lentils, which is completely glutenfree and only 189 calories. One would never assume that rice and lentils could ever taste as amazing as this crispy, paper-thin, sourdough tasting crepe. The best part is that you get to fill the dosa with anything you’d like. The dosa’s are numbered 1 through 13 on a big chalkboard right behind the counter where you order, but you can add on or take out anything you’d like and make your own.

To make your mouth water, I’ll tell you my two favorite dosas from Hampton Chutney. My go-to meal is a #5 dosa, which consists of melted jack cheese, arugula, fresh tomatoes, avocado, chicken, and I always add roasted corn. If I’m wanting to mix it up a bit, I’ll go for the #9 dosa, which is curry chicken, spinach, balsamic roasted onions, and I always add the amazing roasted corn and avocado to this one as well.

What makes the dosa even better? The chutneys. Chutneys are dipping sauces that are made on the premises with fresh herbs and spices. There are 6 chutneys to choose from, and let me tell you, they are ALL delicious. I could easily take a spoon and just eat chutneys plain because they are that awesome. Each dosa comes with either a cilantro, curry, mango, tomato, peanut or coconut chutney (and each additional is 50 cents).

Not interested in a dosa? Try Hampton Chutneys delicious salads and soups. They even offer fresh watermelon juice and mango or strawberry lassis, which are just like smoothies. To make your mornings better, Hampton Chutney makes some of the best cardamon coffee and chai tea. To spice up your nights, they have all different kinds of cookies, soft serve ice cream and brownies. There is an item on the menu to satisfy any of your cravings and please even the pickiest of eaters. Absolutely everything on the menu is delicious and kid-friendly.

This is by far one of my favorite restaurants of all-time because the food is always fresh, the atmosphere is positive and the owners run their business with kindness and passion. As soon as I get back home to my New York roots, this is the first restaurant I always visit. A bucket-list stop in The Hamptons and NYC without a doubt.
