Two years ago, the Morris Inn got a serious makeover that has divided ND students into two groups. A select few of us are “just thrilled” about the renovation and love to stay at the sparkling new inn whenever Mommy and Daddy are in town. Most of us (myself included), however, try to avoid the ultra-classy hotel as much as possible-if we do have to enter the building, we tiptoe and try not to touch anything/draw attention to ourselves.

Along with the hotel renovation, the Morris Inn’s previously dark and dingy bar called Leahy’s got a brand new look and became what is now Rohr’s. The bar also got a brand new menu. That includes $3 pints. And pretty amazing food. Best part? The place is super approachable and geared especially toward Notre Dame students and faculty members. The spot is lively and fun-no tiptoeing in here.

Some menu highlights include appetizers like deep-fried pickle chips served with a buttermilk ranch dipping sauce, flatbreads with interesting toppings like pesto and bacon jam, and small plates like macaroni and cheese with shrimp and spicy sausage. The flatbread with grilled chicken, pesto, bacon jam, Kalamata olives, toasted pine nuts is my personal favorite.

Drinks range in price from $3 pints to $7-12 glasses of wine and cocktails. The drink menu is updated seasonally, and fall specials include cocktails made with cider and other fall flavors and autumn/winter lagers and ales.

Best of all: Rohr’s is conveniently located on campus. The bar is like Legend’s chic cousin suited for entertaining young people looking for delicious but affordable food and interesting drinks rather than a more traditional bar setting with stereotypical bar food. Whether you are looking for an easy date night or a convenient place to grab a drink or two with friends, Rohr’s is the perfect restaurant/bar for ND students.
