Dear Fellow Pilots: We want to present to you, University of Portland's newest and coolest publication, Spoon University. We are a group of students passionate about food and creativity—and we are looking to grow our Spoon community! We here at Spoon hope that this community can be a haven of good food and funny lifestyle tips, a place to escape from the stresses of school. Here is why joining Spoon will be one of the best choices you make this year:

1. It's an amazing way to make new friends.

Going to a university can feel intimidating at times, especially because there are so many people. The best thing about joining communities like Spoon is that it gives you those friendly faces when you walk around campus.

2. It's a great way to get involved in your community—on and off campus.

Spoon isn't just a university-focused group. We love to get involved in the community! Creating for Spoon allows you to learn more about the city you're living in and tasty restaurants down the street that you never knew existed. We get to connect with local shops and make connections all over Portland.

3. You have a chance to unlock your creative side.

Here at Spoon, we encourage you to think outside of the box. If you sign up to be a photographer, maybe try writing an article. If you sign up to be a marketer, maybe try your hand at videography. You also get brainstorm and pitch writing, videography or photography assignments for our chapter.

4. We're going to have some super fun events together!

Potlucks, tabling, and documenting the opening of new restaurants... the list goes on. We are going to have so many fun experiences together that you won't want to miss out on!

5. It's going to look AMAZING on your resume.

Being involved in a world-wide blog looks pretty dang good on a resume. Employers love seeing creative individuals who get involved in a variety of activities. Maybe you are an engineering major who wants to be a photographer for Spoon. Trust me, that is going to look awesome on your resume. It's all about being well-rounded.

6. Food... this group literally is all about food.

This publication gives you the excuse to go out and try new kinds of food, new restaurants, and new experiences. Truly what more could you want?
