I am an ice cream fanatic. I love everything related to ice cream: ice cream cones, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cake, and milkshakes. When I saw Black Tap's insane milkshakes for the first time on Instagram, I thought it was too good to be true. I had never seen anything like it before. My sister, mother, and I took to the Big Apple to see what was all the hype, and honestly we were disappointed. First of all, the line to get into the restaurant was absurdly long. And although we were amazed by the milkshakes themselves, we didn't think they were all that. After that trip, I swore off "freak shakes" for good until I discovered Cream & Sugar Cafe in Bethel, CT.

Cream & Sugar Cafe is home to some famous ice cream, crepes, and coffees, and most recently, freak shakes. After seeing a picture of them on Instagram my mind was blown. They blew Black Tap's milkshakes out of the park. I had never seen a milkshake covered in layers of cake, cookies, and candy. I was curious to see if they were just as average as Black Tap's, so my fellow Spoonie and I traveled to Bethel for a taste test and oh, were our minds blown.

The Shakes

When you go on Cream & Sugar's website, you can view a menu of all of their freak shakes. I was absolutely amazed by the types of shakes they were coming out with. The Belly Buster (pictured above) was chocolate and cookie dough ice cream topped with a donut, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate cake, brownie, an ice cream cone, Oreos, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. Talk about chocolate heaven. Honestly how could one person eat all of this? I don't even want to know the amount of calories in one shake...

The Price

The price on these shakes is a little steep at a whopping $16, but it is totally worth it. Trust me, you cannot finish one of these yourself and will need to share with a friend or two...maybe three. They also offer a mini size which is $13 but is still insane in size! (We got the mini size and it was huge!).

The Verdict

My friend and I got to try three of their freak shakes: Smore's, Belly Buster, and Candy Crush. Our favorite shake was the Belly Buster. It was honestly overwhelming. But we ended up bringing almost all of it home because we couldn't finish it all.

The Candy Crush (pictured above) was by far the prettiest.  It was pink cotton candy ice cream, covered in cotton candy, an ice cream cone, candy, and edible glitter. It honestly looked like it came straight from Candy Land.

If you have a sweet tooth like me, or just want to keep up with the latest trends, you definitely need to check out this place for a freak shake. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
