If you’ve ever been on Kirkwood on a weekend, then odds are you’ve seen the huge line in front of The Village Deli. And let me tell you, people are waiting in that line for a good reason. Having had many a delicious weekend brunch at The Village Deli myself, I can tell you that the food is absolutely mouthwatering. Whether you’re craving an omelet, a fluffy waffle or a bowl of yogurt topped with homemade granola, The Village Deli has got you covered.

And did I mentioned their famous, colossal, huge, GINORMOUS, fresh buttermilk pancakes? Unlike some menu options you see at restaurants, The Village Deli isn’t lying about the size of their pancakes.  If you want to know what pure joy tastes like, bump up your buttermilk pancake to a cinnamon roll pancake, and I promise you will experience absolute bliss.

These suckers hang over the sides of your plate and are big enough to split (but I’d say forget sharing and just eat it all yourself). The Village Deli also has seasonal pancakes, and they currently have their pumpkin pancakes on the menu. Whoever thought to put pumpkin butter and maple syrup on the same pancake is a genius.

Their breakfast menu also includes the classic Daily Scrambles and an impressive selection of vegetarian options. They often feature local ingredients, another plus. Take for example, one of their specials, the Capriole Wrap. It features spinach, egg, asparagus, local goat cheese, sundried tomatoes and onions in a veggie wrap topped with cilantro sauce and served with a side of verde salsa from The Laughing Planet. The flavors in this dish are complex, with the fresh salsa complementing the sharp goat cheese. Other specials include a variety of eggs benedict, and who could forget their famous homefries?

The Village Deli has a tasty lunch and dinner menu as well for those of you who might not crave breakfast all day long. My personal favorites include: Paxton’s Patty Melt, which subs a grilled chicken breast for the traditional hamburger, A Bird for the Wise, which is reminiscent of Thanksgiving dinner with its layers of turkey and cranberry sauce, and The Basic BLT, Revisited, which is topped with avocado and onions to spice up this classic sandwich.

The Village Deli is the perfect spot for you to take visiting friends and family, as it’s affordable, offers fast and friendly service and features a range of foods that’s sure to wow anyone passing through Bloomington.

Follow The Village Deli on Twitter and Facebook so you can keep an eye on what they’re up to.
