Unique Trader Joe’s Fall Items You Probably Haven’t Heard of

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Cal Poly chapter.

If you’re a pumpkin lover like me, fall is the best season to frequent your local Trader Joe’s store. They create everything and anything featuring this famous squash, aside from many of their other fall goodies. As an avid Trader Joe’s shopper, and new member of the store crew in San Luis Obispo, I felt compelled to share my favorites of the season. Here are some of the best fall items at Trader Joe’s that I recommend you look out for.

1.  Cornbread Crisps

These crisps are hands down, one of my favorite new fall items at Trader Joe’s. They’re cornbread, in a chip! Trader Joe’s Cornbread Crisps are a crazy new innovation, with that cornmeal texture we all love from the classic bread, and a mix of both sweet and savory notes. These crisps are chili’s latest and greatest sidekick.

2. Pumpkin Caramel Danish Kringle

If your local Trader Joe’s store is displaying these, you need to try one. I’ve never been a Danish eater, but after seeing how many people were buying these Kringles, I couldn’t resist. Plus, they’re pumpkin-flavored, so how could I say no? These Danish Kringles are very large and filled with a pumpkin pecan mixture, topped with a caramel drizzle. It might sound heavy, but its the best accompaniment to sharing some coffee with friends on a cozy fall day.

#SpoonTip: These sell out super quick! So if you see them, don’t hesitate to throw them in your cart.

3. Umami Paste

When I first saw this product, I was slightly weirded out. My roommate decided to buy it, but I remained a skeptic. With a list of ingredients including tomato puree, olives, parmesan cheese, and anchovy paste, I wondered how this would taste. Recently though, I’ve started to experiment with it, adding it to soups and some other dishes. Let me just say, it really fits its name. It brings such balanced flavors to meals and really serves as that tomato paste 2.0.

4. Pumpkin and Roasted Pepitas Cookies

These cookies are fantastic! They’re thin and crispy, almost like ginger snaps, and they’re full of zesty fall spices. The roasted pumpkin seeds, pepitas, that are baked into them add a great crunch and texture. If you’re craving sweets, these are a great new Trader Joe’s product to munch on!

5. Za’atar Chevre

Goat cheese is one of my favorite types of cheese. This new version Trader Joe’s is selling has an interesting twist—it’s coated in Middle Eastern za’atar spice, which is typically a combination of dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, sumac, sesame seeds, and salt. This is a perfect addition on salads or roasted fall vegetables.

6. Pumpkin RX Bar

As a very active and on-the-go student, protein bars are something I love to keep in my bag. RX bars are my new favorite find in this department, including only whole food ingredients as stated on the packaging. They also have 12 grams of protein! Right now, Trader Joe’s are selling a new Pumpkin Spice flavor that brings a hint of sweetness, and some fall flair to this protein-packed product.

7. Natural Flavored Sparkling Waters

Trader Joe’s recently starting upping their sparkling water game! Their 99 cent sparkling waters have gotten a makeover. They now have Island Colada, Pineapple, Grapefruit, and Cranberry Clementine. As a sparkling water fiend, I’ve tried every single one. They’re great for mixing into drinks or drinking them alone as a soda substitute.

8. Everything Bagel Sesame Seasoning

Trader Joe’s brought us this new crazy innovation, and its everything but the bagel. Literally. The seasoning is a mix of onion, garlic, salt, and sesame, and is a unique new topping great for a meal. Personally, I think this seasoning is amazing on avocado toast or any breakfast dish.

From innovative products with a fall twist, to brand-new creations you never knew you needed, Trader Joe’s makes the end of summer much more bearable. Head over to your local store as soon as possible to get your hands on these unique Trader Joe’s Fall items.
