For those college kids who have trouble boiling water or are new to town, here are the best places to grab some grub and get yo’ drank on close to campus. (Yes, we’re talking about Midtown.)
1. 101 Cantina
Cantina does margs like it’s nobody’s business. This spot is no stranger to night life. You can grab a drink here almost any day or night of the week and know that you will run into friends who are doing the same. If you’re a margarita snob like myself, you will appreciate the fact that they don’t skimp on the tequila and every Monday is $1 marg night from 10-11 pm. They also have free beer Friday from 2-3pm and some solid lunch specials.
2. Tijuana Flats
Every Tuesday, college students at Florida dig their hands into their couches in the hopes of finding enough change to add up to $4.99. Why the desperate digging, you ask? Taco Tuesdays. At Tijuana Flats, you can get two tacos, chips and a drink for less than five Washingtons. This deal is perfect for on-campus residents who need a break from the dining hall. Pro tip: stick around for happy hour from 4-7pm.
3. Italian Gator
Located on University Ave., Italian Gator is the best place to get New York style slices on the quick. Known commonly as “Pizza By The Slice” this quirky pizza joint is usually visited after dark, although it does open at 11am Monday-Friday. Whether you’re starving from dancing all night in midtown or are simply walking home from campus, pizza is the best power food. Save money by only buying the slice instead of the whole pie.
4. Shuck
Not only does Shuck boast amazing drink specials, but their food is also off the charts. Bring in all that extra loose couch change from earlier in the week for $0.25 wings on Monday and $0.69 oysters every Tuesday and Thursday. Not a fan of the raw bar? We got you. There’s still Power Hour every Friday from 9-close. Pro Tip: Check their Facebook page regularly for current promotions.
5. Swamp Restaurant
You’ve spent all week sticking to the typical college diet, so why stop on Sunday funday? The Swamp offers 2-4-1 bellinis and mimosas from 1-11 pm on Sundays. While most of you will be more concerned with ingesting the hair of the dog, they also have some interesting menu items, like Gator Tacos.
Long live Midtown.
