Hockey and basketball season is almost upon us, and that means Chicago’s United Center will once again be full of hungry fans. We all come to see the game, but let’s be honest, half the fun of a pro sports event is the food.
A championship level team, however, is not worthy of ordinary stadium food (mostly looking at you, Blackhawks). Luckily, the United Center has much more to offer than your typical hot dogs and pizza.
Big Star Taco, Sections 114 & 230
These tacos are my personal go-to when I visit the UC. The tacos al pastor with grilled pineapple put all other tacos to shame. Definitely order chips and guac to share with your squad, or if you’re feeling indulgent, go for the queso fundido nachos to get you through all those stressful Blackhawks penalty kills.
Leghorn Chicken, Section 115
Dwyane Wade says one of his favorite foods is fried chicken, so order a fried chicken sandwich in honor of his return to his hometown. You can choose from breast or thigh and biscuit or bun, but no matter what, top it off with the green goddess dressing. DWade would approve.
Chicago Sausage Shop, Section 223
This concession stand is serving anything but your standard hot dog or Polish sausage. Options range from adobo sausage with chimichurri to a smoked gouda and apple sausage. If you’re still mourning the loss of Derrick Rose, the green chile sausage topped with fennel slaw and lime mayo is perfect for eating your feelings.
Jake Melnick’s, Sections 104 & 222
Wings are always the go-to snack when you’re watching the game on TV, so being able to eat Chicago’s best wings while watching the game live is quite the upgrade. Just make sure to grab lots of napkins, and be wary when your fellow fans go to high five you after a Patrick Kane goal.
Lillie’s Q, Section 206
Barbecue might not be typical Chicago game day fare, but it should be. Go for the pulled pork or tri-tip sandwich and smother it in sauce. It will definitely be a decision you won’t regret, unlike the Hawk’s decision to trade Andrew Shaw.
We are very #blessed to have some of Chicago’s best food right at our fingertips for every Bulls and Blackhawks game. Rest assured that even if our teams are losing, at least our stomachs will be winning.
