Everyone knows (or should know) that Pittsburgh is a city with great food—especially sandwiches. There are too many delicious Pittsburgh sandwich shops to name, but I'm sure any Pittsburgher could give you a couple options. Most would lead a visitor to Primanti's, making sure they get an authentic taste of what the city is all about.

But maybe you're looking for something more unique. What other places offer sandwiches that are just as good? I've compiled a list to help you save some time by making sure you're trying only the very best sandwiches that Pittsburgh has to offer.

1. Uncle Sam's Sandwich Bar

With multiple locations, you can decide to visit whichever one is most convenient for you. Uncle Sam's Sandwich Bar has different variations of steak sandwiches, so there's always something to satisfy your tastebuds. Make sure you get fries with your meal, you'll regret it if you don't.

2. Fat Head's Saloon

Located on the South Side, Fat Head's has an overwhelming amount of options. If the quantity of options doesn't scare you, then the name definitely will. Sandwiches are called "Headwiches," probably because they're almost the size of your head.

3. Smallman Street Deli

Looking for some classic deli sandwiches? With locations in the Strip District and Squirrel Hill, you'll never have to go far for a good sandwich. You can even order online if you're in a rush. If you can't decide what to get, try the Reuben sandwich, it doesn't disappoint.

4. Triangle Bar and Grill

If you're near the Swissvale area, make sure you stop here for lunch or dinner. The entire menu consists of sandwiches. In the mood for an Italian sandwich? Make sure to order the Battleship, it's a fan favorite.

5. Thin Man Sandwich Shop

The Strip District is gracing Pittsburgh with yet another sandwich place. In addition to the classic and signature sandwiches, Thin Man also offers seasonal sandwiches. They even deliver for those days when you're craving one of their sandwiches but are too lazy to get up.

6. Primanti's Brothers

You can't talk about good sandwich places in Pittsburgh without adding Primanti's to the list. With the savory sandwiches and the multiple locations across the city, there's no reason not to go. I mean, where else can you go and say you had French fries on your sandwich? Primanti's is a Pittsburgh classic, so make sure you try one of their sandwiches.

7. The Yard

The picture says it all. That's right, a grilled cheese sandwich topped with mac and cheese. Unique and delicious. Whether you're in Shadyside, Market Square, or at a Penguins' game, you'll be able to try this creative sandwich.

8. Peppi's

With four locations around the city, you'll always have Peppi's close by. There are so many sandwiches to chose from that you can have something new each time you go. And if you're a Steelers fan, you might want to try the Rothlis "burger".

9. Armand's

If you're in Bloomfield, make sure to stop by this place. With a welcoming and friendly environment, you'll get a taste of Pittsburgh food and Pittsburgh people. The fish sandwich is a must-try, it's a house favorite!

10. Eat Unique

Looking for a healthier sandwich option? Check out Eat Unique in Oakland. These sandwiches are made fresh with organic products and they taste delicious. I recommend the pesto chicken sandwich.

11. The Groove Cheesesteak Company

You don't need to travel to Philly to get a good cheesesteak because Groove Cheesesteak Co. has been voted the best cheesesteak in Pennsylvania. I mean, that's if you're in the mood for an award-winning sandwich...

Whether you're in the mood for something simple or something completely out of the box, there's a sandwich for everyone in the Steel City. If you're trying to decide where to go on vacation next, add Pittsburgh to the list just so you can try these delicious sandwich spots!
