Poindexter Coffee

Poindexter Coffee, snuggled in the entrance of the Graduate Bloomington Hotel on Kirkwood has some of the quirkiest vibes on campus, decorated with vintage cookie jars and mismatched furniture. Guests staying at the Graduate are welcomed to enjoy free tea, drip, and ice coffee. But you don't have to be a guest to love everything about Poindexter. Students and Bloomington residents are warmly welcomed to enjoy coffee and a snack while soaking in the cozy atmosphere. Even though Poindexter Coffee’s menu was affected by Covid-19, similar to other local Bloomington restaurants, the warm café vibes have remained and they have added some new yummy menu items as well! Poindexter Coffee is Bloomington's go-to cozy coffee hangout.

Coffee Buzz

Poindexter exceeds all caffeine expectations, as their menu has specialty drinks ranging from Butterscotch Cortados to White Raspberry Mochas and literally everything in between. I ended up trying the Toasted Marshmallow Mocha and it did not disappoint. Served in enchanting mugs with matching saucers, the coffee tasted just like fall and had the cutest, simple mocha art that made it picture perfect. They have interesting flavor combinations that make their drinks far from "boring coffee." They are also willing to make the perfect coffee for you with any requests and customizations you might have. Also new is their on-tap kombucha, which is usually pomegranate flavored. However the café plans to branch out with more flavors in the future. As Poindexter Coffee transitions into winter, they will start to phase in drinks with toffee nuts and frosted mint, but the autumn seasonal drinks are here to stay until late November!

Let’s Feast

While Poindexter typically would have a menu oozing with yummy breakfast sandwiches, traditional burgers, impossible burgers, fries, onion rings, and then some, Covid-19 has forced them to scale back their menu … at least for the time being. However, they have replaced some of their classics with new, yummy seasonal favorites. Let’s begin with their crazy diverse toast options, which are easily some of the best I have tried in Bloomington! First, we tried the avocado toast, which was so delicious and super elevated with tomatoes and olive oil. We then got to try the apple cinnamon peanut butter toast, which was practically fall placed onto a perfectly toasted piece of bread. And of course we can't forget the delicious Nutella toast with strawberries and bananas. Nothing is better than mixing the savory avocado toast and ending on a sweet note with the Nutella toast. But, if you're not in a toast mood there is also fresh fruit, parfaits, bagels, and pastries that are all made in house. And if you want to mix it up, I would highly recommend the avocado toast … on a toasted bagel!

Deals

Poindexter wants to make it known that all Indiana University students are welcome by encouraging payment by Crimson Card and offering a 10% discount on top of that! Not only that, but Poindexter also partnered with Go Puff for food delivery as well as Orange Theory, allowing for fitness members and students to get a special session if they RSVP. While all those deals pop off, Poindexter is really the place to be on gameday, where the terrace is available with a big screen, free food that is curated by local vendors, corn hole, and giant jenga.

During this crazy time of Covid-19, Poindexter Coffee is another example of a local Bloomington café that continues to serve the yummiest foods and most customizable drinks that rival Starbucks. It reminds us of the need to support local businesses during this tricky time, so if you’re ever craving a cozy breakfast joint or just a place to study on a comfy couch, head over to Poindexter Coffee in the Graduate Hotel
