You may be thinking this girl is crazy, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are for life. I'm sorry to tell you that NC Jelly Donuts are the best of the best, and they're killin' the game one donut at a time.

Before you start shaking your head in disappointment, believe me when I say that I used to be the person who made a detour whenever I saw the Krispy Kreme red light on. But ever since I ate a donut from NC Jelly Donuts, I have yet to eat another elsewhere. Really, they're that good.

While some people look forward to sleeping in on the weekend, my boyfriend and I made it our Saturday morning destination to stop at NC Jelly Donuts, and we always leave satisfied (with more donuts than anticipated).

A Little History

After growing up with her parent's donut shop, Yee Chao was inspired to start up her own business. In 2011, she opened NC Jelly Donuts and it immediately became a hit.

From Monday through Saturday, Yee and her husband came to the shop early in the morning (between 3 to 4 am) to start preparing the donuts, all of which are made from family recipes. By 5:30 am, they started baking them. Depending on the amount of customers, several batches will be made each morning.

If that isn't true dedication, I don't know what is.

Onto the Good Stuff...

If you're planning on grabbing a donut (or a dozen), I suggest coming in the morning. By late afternoon or near closing time, the glass display can get pretty bare. Also, guess how much these five donuts were? Prepared to be wowed because they were only $4.80.

One feature that makes NC Jelly Donuts stand out is that their donuts are filled fresh to the order. And your taste buds will never get bored because you have seven different fillings to choose from. For a first-timer, the buttercream is a must-try.

Along with the filled donuts, another customer favorite is the cinnamon roll. At the size of your face, the total comes to a whooping $1.25. Now that's eating on a budget at its finest.

From cake donuts to raised, you can't go wrong with any choice. While I may not be able to convince you that NC Jelly Donuts are better than Krispy Kreme, I'll let you figure that one out by yourself. But secretly you know I'm right.
