The Must-Have Brunch Foods in Durham

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Duke chapter.

This is the list that Duke students have been waiting for: the all-inclusive guide to the best Durham brunch foods. From french beignets to french toast, we can help you decide where to go based on your weekend craving.

Apple Cider Donut from Monuts

Everyone knows the most popular brunch spot for Duke students is Monuts. It’s always a struggle to pick between their gourmet donuts or a make-your-own breakfast sandwich. We recommend a combination of the two: get a donut to tide you over while you wait for your sandwich to arrive.

A must-have donut from Monuts is their apple cider, which is perfect in the fall.

#SpoonTip: Try to get to Monuts before or after the big brunch rush, which tends to run from about 9am-12pm on Saturdays and Sundays – or stop by Monuts on the weekdays to avoid the line.

Rancheros from Madhatter’s

Conveniently located right next to East Campus, Madhatter’s offers a wide selection of brunch foods and baked goods. If you’re an egg-lover, order either the rancheros or the toasted croissant egg sandwich.

#SpoonTip: Bring your computer and take advantage of this great study spot while you eat.

Salmon Eggs Benedict from The Nasher

The Nasher has brunch. They also take food points. What could be a better combination? If you’re not sure what to order, the salmon eggs Benedict on an english muffin is hands down the best option on the menu.

Cinnamon Vanilla French Toast from Foster’s

It seems like not that many people know about this tucked away spot only a few miles away from Duke. From sandwiches to pancakes to unreal milkshakes, Foster’s has it all. Two must-haves from Foster’s Market are the salmon bagel and the cinnamon-vanilla French toast.

#SpoonTip: If the weather’s nice, grab a table outside to enjoy the sunshine after you order, and the servers will bring the food right to your table.

This market and restaurant combo offers a great selection of brunch foods on their weekly menu, and the avocado toast with a sunny side egg on top is a great way to start any day.

Happy Brunching!
