If you’re hoping to curb your coffee addiction, look no further. Located on Williamsburg’s trendy Wythe Avenue, MatchaBar is New York City’s first café dedicated entirely to matcha green tea.
Matcha is the powdered form of green tea that has long been touted for its health benefits. High in antioxidants, it provides a caffeine boost without the jittery buzz that coffee often causes. MatchaBar was founded by the Fortgang brothers who discovered the power of matcha green tea while attending NYU. With MatchaBar, they aim to “fuel the New York hustle” by offering high-quality matcha directly imported from a local family farm in Nishio, Japan.
Drinks include traditional milk-based matcha lattes as well as specialty drinks like the Lemon Ginger Matcha Latte. And for those who wish to stay true to coffee, you won’t need to compromise. MatchaBar is now brewing its own using beans from Toby’s Estate Coffee.
For hungrier patrons, MatchaBar serves matcha-based desserts and pastries, courtesy of the farm-to-table restaurant Watty & Meg.
MatchaBar hopes to be a grab-and-go kind of place for those looking for a less intense alternative to coffee. But it also caters to those looking for a more relaxed café experience, enhanced by the quirky green light-infused seating area, free wifi, obscure music and trendy coffee table art books.
