honeygrow is one of the first restaurants to open in the new Nine East 33rd complex on campus and Spoon University JHU got the scoop on everything you need to know about it.
honeygrow is an expanding restaurant chain with an agenda for sustainable eating and healthy living. The restaurant prides itself on its fresh, local ingredients, simple design, and quality service. We got the chance to connect with CEO and founder, Justin Rosenberg, about his vision for honeygrow and paid a visit to the new location to see what all the hype was about.
1. honeygrow was originally a Philly born start-up.
Rosenberg said he began honeygrow with humble roots and a gritty drive. A creative at heart, he saw an opportunity to introduce something sustainable and unique to the world of fast-casual dining. “Being extremely passionate about food, design, music and living a healthy lifestyle, I wanted to spend my life doing what I love,” he says.
2. They created a platform for health and wellness within honeygrow.
hgAthletics was created as a way for customers to put their phones down and get active. The concept allows participants to partake in run clubs, hikes, meditation events, and other community fitness activities. You can learn more about hgAthletics on Facebook.
3. It has a sleek, modern take on ordering food.
honeygrow strives to blend creativity into every aspect of its business, including even its ordering kiosks. The proprietarily-designed ordering kiosks are equipped to make ordering faster and simpler. With an electronic interface and colorful pictures, the menu helps those who have trouble telling apart their egg noodles from wheat and white. With build-your-own noodles, rice bowls, salads, and honey (AKA fruit bowls), the possibilities are endless.
4. The items are freshly made and high-quality.
Culinary Director Chef David Katz has a fine-dining background which he leverages to ensure that you’re getting the best meal honeygrow can offer. With fresh noodles, house-made dressings and sauces, and highly trained employees, honeygrow’s products are quality and consistent. Even their soda machine is fair trade, with refreshing flavors like lemon lime and green tea.
5. The menu is designed so you can go back multiple times in a day.
Rosenberg mentions that it’s not uncommon for people to be repeat customers in the same day. They might order a salad for lunch, then come back for dinner for a stir-fry. The convenience of the location combined with the speedy service makes it a great place to pop in for a bite to eat. honeygrow is open seven days a week from 11 AM to 10 PM.
6. The Chesapeake Crab Stir-Fry is a must-try.
The name speaks for itself. But, in case you need more details, the Chesapeake Crab Stir-Fry is built with egg white noodles, Old Bay tomato broth (!), blue crab, a slew of colored vegetables, and an amazing sauce.
