Let’s be honest, we all can’t deny a good deal. Maybe you don’t need that shirt, but the price is so good you’re basically saving money buying it. Or perhaps the Penn Bookstore’s sale on Godiva and sweatshirts is so amazing you can’t resist doubling your collection of both. There’s something about a bargain that makes us all go crazy. If you’re on board with this kind of thinking, I invite you to learn about one of Philly’s (and my) best kept secrets: Sampan Happy Hour.

Every day from 4pm-7pm, Sampan serves up a happy hour menu on which they price appetizers between $2 and $4 and also have cheaper drink prices. Whether you’re looking for an early dinner or an after-class snack, Sampan has you covered. Pop on over and take a seat at the bar. Or, make yourself comfortable at the outdoor Graffiti bar now that it’s warm. A condensed menu features those favorite appetizers you know and love. Those rich Kobe beef skewers you adore so much? $3 each. The irresistibly soft edamame dumplings nestled in a golden sake broth? $3. The fluffy and tangy kimchee fried rice? $4. Yes, this is real life.

While it’s certainly easy to make a meal out of the apps, the main menu is also at your disposal. If you really want to beat the system, arrive at around 6:30pm, place your order for the happy hour apps by 7, and then indulge in a few entrées after. The only thing that tastes better then the food itself is the bargain (and the mini soft-serves at the end of the meal).
