With a wall of windows to highlight the stunning bakery case, getting lost the first time getting here was well worth it. Tucked away from the road stands Rose Street Patisserie, Chef John Crause's second bakery here in Minneapolis. Closely following the mission of its sister bakery, Patisserie 46, to bring French pastry to every neighborhood leads Crause to another successful establishment. However, Rose Street stands out from its counterpart, adding more elegance and simplicity into the atmosphere.

Chef Crause is the first American ever to receive membership into the Relais Desserts Association. Celebrating excellence in French pastry, the association is for the "elite" pastry chef with strict rules for entry. I highly recommend checking out the Realis Dessert's Recipe page to discover how creative chefs need to be for entry.

What to Order:

The patisserie has a bit of something for everyone, from impressive Petit Gateaux to approachable scones and a wide variety of chocolates. This Valentine's Day, try one of Rose's street patisserie's beautiful desserts to-go. Flavors range from award-winning chocolate mousse to seasonal citrus, and everything is designed and executed with the goal of perfection.

I walked in for the second time knowing what I was looking for: the absolutely stunning Rose Petit Gateaux. Looking more like a sculpture for an art gallery than something I want to dig a fork into, the mousse cake dome with ruby red mirror glaze changes flavors seasonally and it one of our top recommendations for Valentines Day.

Pictured above is the Lucia: chocolate mousse with chocolate cake and vanilla cream, so in other words, as good as it gets. But if you are looking for something slightly more traditional, Rose Street also has a wide variety of chocolate boxes.

Rose Street also boasts some amazing breakfast options, from an amazing shareable breakfast pizza to some of the best avocado toast in the city, pictured above. Order and grab a spot by the window, and relax with a fresh cup of coffee or a hot tea.

A final word of advice, ask questions, lots of them, especially if you are picking up something for someone else. With the complexity of Rose Street's selection, it's tough to know exactly what you are looking at. The staff is there to help you pick out the perfect.

So, skip right to the desert this Valentines Day and fill a Rose Street Patisserie box. No flowers necessary.
