Where to Eat and Caffeinate in Providence If You’re an Early Riser

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Brown chapter.

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they find themselves up at absurd hours of the morning. Maybe you have a 6:15 am bus ride to New York. Maybe you’ve had a late night out that has continued into the wee hours of dawn. Or maybe you just enjoy jogging to a rising sun.

Whatever the case, an early riser means an early breakfast. Luckily, there are a few places near College Hill where you can catch a quick breakfast at the break of dawn.

1. Loui’s Restaurant

A no-frills greasy-spoon diner. Also great for lazy Sunday afternoon brunches. Pumpkin pancakes (any time of the year, not just in the fall) are especially recommended.

2. Silver Star Bakery

A cute, homey bakery that specializes in Portuguese baked goods. If you go early, you can get their famous Portuguese sweet bread fresh out of the oven.

3. Starbucks

It may not be glamorous, but Starbucks is always reliable. Grab a ham and cheese savory square or a toasted bagel and call it a day.

4. Bagel Gourmet Ole

Part bagel shop and part Mexican food joint, Bagel Gourmet is a staple of Thayer Street. With its wide variety of breakfast sandwiches and bagel spreads, this little shop has you covered.

Pro tip: Buy a muffin or two at the Blue Room (open until 9 pm) the night before your flight. You know you won’t find a better muffin anywhere else.
