Little Red Fox

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at American chapter.

Inspired by a cute little neighborhood spot in Portland, Little Red Fox has a little bit of something for everyone. We’re talking Ceremony coffee from Annapolis, Maryland, a seasonal and made from scratch menu and a market filled with all of the ingredients you need to recreate one of their mouth-watering daily specials at home. What more could you ask for?

Run by a husband and wife duo, Little Red Fox feels like the perfect homey place to sip on a honey cinnamon latte and procrastinate your upcoming midterms. Don’t worry though, they have wifi and communal seating if you’re looking for an off campus spot to do work. The café is located in Chevy Chase, only a short walk from Tenleytown, and surrounded by book shops and hip clothing stores to explore.

Sous chef Bobby Dodd chatted with us about the café’s focus on local produce and a menu that is diverse, with local favorites that are available weekly. They also have many options for both vegans and meat-eaters alike.

Chef Dodd graciously served us a variety of dishes that were inspired by both himself and Head Chef, Anne Alfano. Our favorites were the blistered carrots with cumin and house made ricotta and the BBQ pulled pork. We’ll be dreaming about their chocolate pecan pie too.

If you’re visiting on the weekends, be sure to grab one of their fried egg sandwiches like the Portlander, which is slathered with apple butter, arugula and gorgonzola, or one of their drool-worthy pastries. During the week, their dinner menu changes daily, but you can always find something to satisfy, like Bobby’s fried chicken on Sundays, or Tomato-Zucchini tartines with gruyere.

It’s the best spot in town to show your foodie date just how hip you really are.

If you don’t have enough time to savor one of their dishes at the café, their shelves are always stocked with artisan pastas, local beer and kombucha, and specialty peanut butters (uhhh, espresso peanut butter anyone?) to create one of your own at home. You can even grab some gelato push-pops from Dolcezza Gelato, or a kit to make your own pour-over coffee at home. So, bring your parents and stock up.

Little Red Fox is sure to be your new favorite spot no matter the occasion.
