This Allston Gem Will Steal Your Whole Heart

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at BU chapter.

I like to classify myself as a foodie, and I always attempt to try new restaurants before I venture back to the ones I know and love. It has been quite difficult to do so after my first time at Whole Heart Provisions. I’ve been back many times since, and have brought along nearly everyone I know to try it. I even asked my parents for meals here as my birthday gift, rather than tangible gifts like new sweaters or shoes.

As a veggie lover and someone who loves to know exactly what’s in a dish, I feel comfort and excitement in the wholesome bowls that Whole Heart has to offer. Not to mention, the range of flavors from spicy to sweet to nutty and much more in between.

The restaurant is a small joint in Allston, surrounded by incredible food from Roxy’s Grilled CheeseDeep Ellum and FoMu. Once you step into Whole Heart, you wait on line to order and then grab a table, where your bowl will be brought to you. You can either make your own bowl or choose a signature bowl, and the street food snacks are a must when it comes to sides.

I always go for the Cassie bowl with a swap of broccoli for the chickpeas. It’s not too spicy and the veggies all complement each other so perfectly, I find it hard to venture from such perfection to try another bowl.

The street corn makes a gal who doesn’t love corn on the cob want to keep eating more, since it’s sweet and creamy, but not heavy enough that I can only take a bite or two. And the crispy Brussel sprouts are spicy and tasty, and defy the childhood stereotypes against the green veggie.

Making your own bowl also allows you to morph together a few of the signature bowl’s distinct flavors and create something that is made just for you. Between edamame, Japanese eggplant, black currants, cucumbers, carrots and more, there is something for everyone when it comes to building your own dish.

Other favorites from Whole Heart include the seared avocado and the matcha lemonade, but the problem is that the list can go on. There hasn’t been a single item on the menu that I haven’t wanted to order again, which keeps me coming back time and time again. I would say this restaurant keeps stealing my whole heart.
