Before starting at Chapel Hill, I was given many recommendations for restaurants that I had to try on Franklin Street. The restaurant that was mention the most, was none other than the infamous Mediterranean Deli. After eating just one meal there, I finally understood why this restaurant is a Chapel Hill classic. Now, whenever my friends and I are deciding what to get for dinner, we always look at each other and say in unison, “mmhmm how about Med Deli?”.

The great thing about Med Deli, is that it’s a relatively healthy dining option that can be found, not only on Franklin Street, but also all over campus (at the bottom of Lenoir, the Student Store, and many other on-campus cafes). And with the seemingly endless options of flavorful dishes and sides, it’s almost impossible to get tired of the food. But while their wide range of possible dishes is great, it’s easy to be overwhelmed with all the options.

For first timers and regulars alike, we have decided to create a “Med Deli Cheat Sheet” of some of the best side dishes for when you get too overwhelmed with options or you just want to try something new.

We personally think that one of the best ways to order at Med Deli is to get the three item sampler plate with a grain, veggie, and a protein. This way you get a meal that has a wide range of flavors and is generally well-balanced. It’s a win-win. So, here we have listed some of our favorite side dishes to help you craft your own delicious meal.
