Brunch at the Pit has always been a Wake Forest tradition. Lazy Deacs that greet Sundays with regret and exhaustion typically drag themselves to the Pit for their daily fix of fried and delicious food. This magical meal encompasses breakfast and lunch, thus permitting you to eat both chicken and waffles in the same sitting without feeling like a complete psycho. But what is it exactly that makes the Pit’s brunch so special? Nothing. So, here’s a little foodspiration that will ensure each Pit brunch is delicious and Instagram-worthy.
The beauty of brunch is that there are essentially no rules — you can set your freaky taste buds free. However, creating some serious Pit food porn is no easy task. To be successful, one must be very well acquainted with a few brunch favorites such as eggs, bacon, waffles, and last but definitely not least, avocado.
1. M&M Waffle
If you’re looking for a fun and fast way to satisfy your sweet tooth, make your way over to the ice cream bar and snag some M&Ms. Go ahead and toss them in your waffle mix. Finally, finish off the final product with a hearty scoop of vanilla ice cream.
#SpoonTip: Adding both ice-cream and syrup can be a bit overwhelming. Try one at a time first!
2. Waffle BLT
Torn between sweet and salty? Don’t fret, just make a waffle BLT! If you’re feeling extra daring, add some deli meat and slab on some mayo.
#SpoonTip: Before digging in, make sure to press the BLT in the panini maker.
3. Breakfast BEG (bagel, egg, and cheese)
Nothing says brunch like a breakfast sandwich. Toast your bread of choice, grab some scrambled eggs, add cheese and press the oozy goodness together. Add bacon, sausage or both to create a true masterpiece.
#SpoonTip: Find a napkin ASAP.
4. Avo, Egg and Toast
BYOA: The “bring your own avocados” movement enriches all brunch possibilities, instantly transforming a mediocre meal into a breakfast plate that is to die for. My personal favorite is an order of sunny side up eggs with feta, all on top of avocado toast with a pinch of red pepper flakes. This meal never gets old.
#SpoonTip: Make sure your avocados are very ripe (almost black on the outside).
5. The McPittle
Why go to McDonalds for a McGriddle, when you can brunch at the Pit with a McPittle? Grab a few sausage, butter up a few pancakes and voilà — double decker sausage breakfast stack!
#SpoonTip: Make sure to add syrup in between the stacks. Sausage+Syrup=Delicious.
6. PB&G
If you ever feel like eating something healthy for a turn (unlike me), try this peanut butter and granola toast. Super easy and super delicious.
#SpoonTip: Drizzle honey for a sweeter taste.
7. Fried Chicken & Waffles
Finally, if you’re lucky, you’ll waltz into the Pit and find the greatest brunch spectacle ever known to man — chicken and waffles. Although this may seem like an unlikely pair, the two compliment each other perfectly. They are (w)awfully good.
#SpoonTip: Don’t knock it until you try it.
Deacs, now that you have the inside scoop, brunch well and brunch often.
