7 Best Places to Snack While You Take on Finals Week in Tallahassee

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at FSU chapter.

Hunting for the perfect study spot during finals week can often become an extremely time consuming task. With the libraries being packed to the brim and almost every Starbucks and Panera in sight out of tables to sit at, we constantly find ourselves struggling to find the perfect spot. This is why many students, like myself, often resort to the confinements of their rooms to study.

While this is a perfectly fine way to study for finals, switching up your study spot and going to a local restaurant or cafe can actually help you retain the material you’re studying even more. Studying in different locations, especially during an intense time like finals week, helps refresh your brain so it doesn’t get as fatigued.

Although binge-snacking is definitely not the greatest thing to do, fueling your brain with healthy snacks is a necessity, especially during the most intense studying week of the semester. For this reason, going to a cafe is a great place to study since there are usually some healthier options available there than at the McDonald’s down the road.

With this list of some of the best restaurants and cafes to study at in Tallahassee, you’re sure to be motivated to ace even your toughest finals this semester.

Located on Railroad Ave., All Saints Cafe is an inexpensive restaurant that serves coffee, tea, sandwiches, and baked goods. They’re open 24 hours a day and offer free Wi-Fi to their customers, which is what makes it one of the best places to study in Tallahassee. Most people choose All Saints as their prime study spot because of the chill atmosphere the cafe provides and the openness of the restaurant with a few large tables that are perfect for group study sessions.

The Joint is a new Tallahassee restaurant that is quickly becoming a favorite to many with its Tennessee Street location and its mouthwatering breakfast menu, which is served all day. Open from 8 am to 12 am, this is a great spot to bring your books to and grab a meal while you study with its plentiful amount of high top tables and booths.

The Power Plant is a new cafe in town and is located in Tallahassee’s gorgeous Cascades Park adjacent to The Edison. Being open from 6 am to 11 pm and having several (not just one) Wi-Fi options are just a couple of the perks that this cafe has to offer. If you’re looking for a spot that will offer some peace while you’re studying, this is the place to come to because of its gorgeous location in Cascades Park. They offer an expansive array of drinks and snacks for whatever you may be craving that day and serve coffee from Catalina Cafe.

Black Dog Cafe has two locations, one being on Lake Ella and the other in Railroad Square. They’re open from 7 am to 11 pm and known for their excellent coffee and tea selection as well as their delicious desserts (which are all locally made). One of the best aspects of Black Dog that makes it a perfect study location is that the Lake Ella cafe has a great porch out back that allows you to take in the beauty of nature as you’re studying.

5. Maple Street Biscuit Company

This recently opened restaurant is one of the closest cafes to FSU’s campus with its location on West Call Street below The Luxe apartment complex. Spacious and clean on the inside, this is a great study location for people who are looking for more than just scones and tea. Their hearty menu consists of biscuits that are topped with all sorts of deliciousness including gravy, fried chicken, collard greens, eggs, and more; a perfect study zone for a hungry mind.

6. Lucky Goat Coffee

Known to some as having the best coffee in all of Tallahassee, Lucky Goat Coffee is a wonderful spot situated on Capital Circle NE to dedicate some time to studying for exams. Open from 7 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 6 pm on weekends, Lucky Goat is one of the best cafes to study at in the Tallahassee area with its quiet and spacious interior. One more thing to love about this place is that they serve bakery treats supplied by The Cake Shop (YUM).

7. Apropo

Serving crepes, wraps, sandwiches, salads, and coffee from 8 am to 10 pm daily proves why this is your next group project location instead of one of the study rooms at Strozier. Big open tables and great food are two of the amazing features of Apropo that make it great for studying, especially with other people. With its location on Tennessee Street, it would be an ideal meeting ground for multiple people who want to get together and do some work.
