It’s the time of the year we spend all semester dreading…it’s finals season. Here’s the time where you’re realizing your semester long procrastination has finally caught up to you. You’ve most likely skipped the past three weeks of your class to tan and you’re realizing it’s time to crack down. So, naturally, you’re tryna hit up Club Richter to get your study on, only to realize people are posting up at 7 AM to save spots for their friends, while they simultaneously make it their mission to stink up the second floor bathroom with their addy/coffee poops.

So, when Richter’s too crowded, too loud, and far too social, try out some of these off campus study spots.

Pasion del Cielo is a trendy coffee shop offering up a variety of different types of coffee beans, lattes, drinks, and pastries. It’s homey vibe and mood lighting allows you to feel comfortable while getting on that study grind. Not to mention, they have bomb alfajores to satisfy your sweet tooth while studying.

I’ve been hitting up this spot since my good ole days spent at the lovely establishment that is Ransom Everglades. This little hole in the wall bookstore is not only the perfect study atmosphere, but it’s also an organic kitchen operated by friendly workers. From lattes, to pancakes, to avocado toast and caprese pesto sandwiches, The Bookstore in the Grove’s menu has got you covered. Seriously, the food is unreal.

Oh Panther Coffee, how I love you. This trendy coffee shop has an amazing array of different types of coffees and pastries. With a new location in the heart of Coconut Grove less than 10 minutes away from campus and one in Wynwood, there’s no reason not to try out this study spot.

Basic, I know, but you can’t deny the fact that it’s an effective study spot. Sure, we do have two starbucks locations on campus, but if you’re trying to avoid the constant distractions of seeing your fellow cracked out peers, try out one of the Starbucks locations in the Grove, or even the one in Sunset. They’ve got the coffee, they’ve got the snacks, and they’ve got your back.

And while you’re at it, try out this Starbucks hack.

The Cafe at Books and Books

This dog friendly bookstore and cafe has an earthy feel to it that is far more enjoyable than the stale library environment that is Richter. Not to mention, its menu offers up food options that the food court at UM just can’t beat.
