Heads up, Chefs! Season 4 of FX’s series The Bear was officially served up on a silver platter on Wednesday, June 25. Even with just one season under the show’s belt, the series inspired dishes, Halloween costumes, and spontaneous trips to Chicago which the fictional restaurant is based in.
The show has since featured numerous celebrity cameos from John Mulaney to Sarah Paulson, which was a marriage of flavors that just made the series a more exciting watch. A fan-favorite among the recurring cast is Lionel Boyce aka L-Boy — known previously for working beside rapper Tyler, The Creator on Loiter Squad — who plays Marcus, a passionate pastry chef on The Bear. In the show, Marcus starts from humble beginnings with chocolate cake before the restaurant’s exterior, interior, and menu upgrade. To master his skills in the art of dessert, Marcus is sent 5,000 miles away from home to Copenhagen to train with Chef Luca who is played by Will Poulter.
As with Boyce, Poulter has also been a character that fans want to see more of outside of his special guest role on the series. Here’s why he is so beloved and if the Chef Luca lovers will be well fed in Season 4.
Who is Chef Luca and why is Will Poulter in The Bear?
Even though Chef Luca is not based on any real chef in particular, Poulter took serious steps in his preparation for his character to ensure any chopping, speech, and eye squinting was authentic to one. Other than being a great gift giver by wishing Marcus’ opening night luck and sending a plaque that read ‘Every Second Counts’, Luca is a dedicated chef who believes innovation and creativity is essential to grow as a culinary artist.
Poulter is quoted in an interview with Variety that he was a fan of the show originally and begged Chis Storer, one of the show’s writers, to be part of the series. Since Poulter’s first appearance in season 2, episode 4, titled “Honey Dew,” the internet crowned Chef Luca as the show’s new ‘Hot Chef.’
Not only has his tasty-looking desserts caught the audience’s eye, but Poulter’s tattooed and moody character was something fans took away with them in their hearts and tucking a strand of hair behind their ears whenever he came onscreen.
Will Chef Luca appear in season 4 of The Bear?
Luckily for fans, the writers got the hint and brought back Luca’s character into a recurring role in Season 4 of The Bear. Luca is set to work as an unpaid intern essentially to assist with the dessert station helping Marcus.
