One of the best things about baking cookies is tasting the dough (you know you do it) and eating a warm cookie right out of the oven. A fresh chocolate chip cookie that falls apart as you take a bite and that is almost too hot to chew might be my favorite way to enjoy a cookie. But a scoopable cookie dough dessert has taken over TikTok, and we’re not mad about it. This sweet treat is a dream come true for sweet-tooth fanatics who love gooey, half-baked or almost raw desserts.
What is scoopable cookie dough?
Scoopable cookie dough, or scoop cookies, is a partially baked chocolate chip cookie. Instead of individual cookies, it’s made in a one dish so the middle is gooey and soft, and the outside has crisp golden edges. It’s almost like a brownie, but instead of being cut into individual squares, it’s scooped out like a dip or a scoop of ice cream.
The dessert is made in a square or rectangular dish and is usually served with an ice cream scoop or a large spoon. It can be eaten alone but also can be served with any toppings your heart desires. The dessert originates in the Middle East and is served in cafes like this one in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia that TikTok creator @sarahsdolcielimone found.
Luckily for those of us outside the Middle East, the recipe can be replicated at home — and it’s pretty straightforward too.
How do you make scoopable cookie dough?
The recipe calls for the same ingredients as a traditional chocolate chip cookie but the way you bake it is different. TikTok user @withdyna’s recipe calls for butter, brown sugar, white sugar, egg, flour, cornstarch, baking soda and chopped chocolate. You could also use chocolate chips instead of chopping regular chocolate.
After mixing the wet ingredients together, add the dry ingredients and the chocolate chips, just like you would with regular chocolate chip cookies. But, instead of scooping small balls of cookie dough onto a tray, you separate the dough into only five or six scoops in a rectangular or square dish. Bake the cookie dough for around 12 minutes for soft in the middle and just barely hardened around the edges scoop cookies.
If you’re short on ingredients, or short on time, you can also create the same dessert with premade cookie dough like @yazyum does. This creator layers the cookie dough with Dubai chocolate spread and milk chocolate pieces before placing the dish in the oven.
Are there other variations?
For anyone who’s looking to amp up the basic chocolate chip cookie flavor, TikTok users have come up with some pretty creative variations. The most popular recipes add the cookie to vanilla ice cream, but any flavor of ice cream could change the dessert. Adding cookie dough ice cream could be a fun way to bring out the cookie dough motif of the dessert.
You could add sea salt and caramel to the cookies for a slightly savory taste. Or you could add brown butter and festive Valentine’s Day M&M’s like @wellmadebykiley does in her video.
If you’re not feeling chocolate chip cookies, you could follow the same baking instructions, but use the dough of your choice instead. We’re thinking scoopable dark chocolate chunk cookies or even scoopable snickerdoodle cookies.
