What Does Moonbeam Ice Cream Mean?

If you’ve scrolled through TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen discourse over “Moonbeam Ice Cream.” This phrase comes from Benson Boone’s hit single “Mystical Magical,” and it’s been taking over social media feeds thanks to a collaboration between Boone and Crumbl Cookies

But what exactly is “Moonbeam Ice Cream?” Is it a flavor, a feeling, or just a catchy lyric? The answer, fittingly, is a little bit of everything.

Where does ‘Moonbeam Ice Cream’ come from?

Benson Boone, the 23-year-old artist behind “Beautiful Things,” first dropped the phrase in his new single “Mystical Magical.” The term quickly went viral, sparking TikTok videos and Reddit threads where users debated what “moonbeam ice cream” could actually mean.

During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month, Boone admitted that the line “Moonbeam ice cream / Taking off your blue jeans” started out as a placeholder lyric. Boone and songwriting partner Jack LaFrantz were initially struggling with writer’s block and could not think of a fitting lyric for the song’s melody. “We’d been sitting [in the studio] for an hour,” Boone says, “and [LaFrantz] goes ‘Moonbeam ice cream / Taking off your blue jeans.’ And I was like, ‘You know what? At this point…”

Boone kept the line despite not understanding what it meant, but after listening to the song some more, the singer told Fallon he thought, “You know what? Moonbeam ice cream, hell yeah!”

What is the Crumbl Cookies collaboration with Benson Boone?

Crumbl is a popular dessert franchise known for its rotating cookie menu with new flavor combinations every week. This June, Crumbl partnered with Boone to launch the Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie

The limited-edition cookie is a chilled chocolate base filled with cookies-and-cream pieces, topped with a swirl of lemon, berry, and marshmallow frosting, and finished with a white icing drizzle and cookies-and-cream crumbles.

According to Crumbl co-founder Sawyer Hemsley, Boone didn’t just give his name to the collab, but he played an active role. Hemsley says that with the artist’s input, “[Crumbl] took the way his song makes you feel and turned it into something you can taste.”

The Internet’s reaction has been explosive, with fans rushing to Crumbl locations and turning cookie runs into viral videos. The treat has received mixed reviews, with some fans praising the unique blend of cookies-and-cream with citrusy and berry flavors but others finding the combination to be odd or overwhelming. Despite the range of opinions on the cookie, this collaboration has definitely everyone talking (and tasting). The Moonbeam Ice Cream cookie has been added to Crumbl’s lineup for one more week, so try it before it’s gone.

What’s next?

“Moonbeam Ice Cream” doesn’t exist in stores yet, but in his interview with Jimmy Fallon, Boone hinted that “something [is] coming when the album drops.” Until then, “moonbeam ice cream” is a pop culture moment blending whimsy with magic, and fans can eagerly anticipate the next sweet surprise.
