On a fine Tuesday afternoon, I reached Spezia Bistro for the much talked-about event “Bhukkad vs Pizza” organized by the famous food bloggers “Dilli ke 3 bhukkad” and Spezia Bistro. The beautiful café was brightened by a cheery crowd of contestants who were all geared up for their expedition into Man vs Food.
Enter glorious, larger-than-life pizzas.
These handcrafted pizzas topped with oozing mozzarella and veggies like onions, olives and broccoli were baked right in front of us, in the very popular live pizzeria of Spezia Bistro. Everybody stood in awe when their gaze fell upon the beast that they were about to face.
The contest started with teams facing each other while they had to gobble their pizzas up in 20 minutes. People came, people went. Many gave up, many triumphed. I observed while the hogging frenzy took over. Amidst the geared up atmosphere with a strong whiff of mozzarella, the mania went from crazy to cray cray.
Shit got real when I became a part of a team with one person less. My team members’ devouring game was on fleek. The hysteria was so contagious, it didn’t take me long to start gorging on the pizza. We tore the pizza into massive slices and rolled them in order to finish them quickly.
At last, we chomped our way to victory in 19 minutes and 40 seconds. Our team became the first one to finish the bad boy in the given time (although it was taken down pretty soon). The winners – team number 52 – finished the challenge in 10 minutes and 16 seconds, making their record bulletproof.
The experience, I’d say, was quintessential. Not only for the glutton but also for the adventurous. I mean, it doesn’t take one with a faint heart to sabotage a pizza as massive as this and still enjoy every bite!
