There’s A New Taco On TikTok & In True Gen Z Fashion, It’s Pickle-Themed

If there’s one thing Gen Z has been loving for the past few years, it’s pickles, and as a certified pickle-lover, I’m not mad about it. While you won’t see me eating pickle flavored cotton candy, I have eaten seven pickle spears in a row as a meal. Now there’s a new pickle trend on the horizon, and it just might be my favorite one yet, a pickle taco.

This viral snack first made waves in a TikTok by @mooncake3000eats and is made with five simple ingredients. All you have to do is spread some cream cheese on a slice of salami, add a pickle, and wrap it up like a taco, and then top with everything bagel seasoning and dip in hot honey. I love a good savory dish, and tons of people on TikTok agree.

When I first came across @mooncake3000eats’ TikTok, I thought that it was just another one-hit wonder, viral for the amount of likes it got, but not being tried by the masses. Then, I searched for it, and realized just how wrong I was. The pickle taco can also be customized to your liking, which is what @mahlea_shaye did in her TikTok trying the snack. The Aussie influencer used hot salami instead of regular and even topped it with some coriander (cilantro for those of us in the U.S.). I’m not personally a spicy food girl, so I’d choose the regular salami and probably forgo the hot honey, but that’s what makes this trend a winner in my book. The possibilities are endless.

I’ve also seen some people include jalapeños in their pickle tacos, and one creator, @elliebroth, even made a whole flight of them. Some of her toppings included crispy onions, pickled onions, and tomatoes, and she further customized her taco by using flavored cream cheese and spreadable boursin cheese for a little something extra.

If you’re planning on heading to the store to get the ingredients to make your own, I highly recommend making sure to get whipped cream cheese as it tends to be more easily spreadable. I’ve learned this the hard way whenever I make cucumber bites with cream cheese and bagel seasoning and think that blocks of cream cheese will work fine (spoiler alert, it doesn’t). I’ve said before that Gen Z’s pickle obsession gets a little crazy sometimes, and I’m still not entirely sure if I count this as a taco or a hot dog, but there’s one thing I’m sure of. When I go to the grocery store tomorrow, you can bet that salami, cream cheese, and mini pickles will definitely be on my list.
