Is it raining outside or is every teenager and young adult woman crying immense tears of sadness? Ferrero, the company that makes Nutella, just announced their plan to discontinue the chocolate-hazelnut spread.
According to a press release, Nutella claimed that their addictive spread has become rather obsolete and overused. Other companies such as Trader Joe’s and Smucker’s have also invented similar knock-offs, therefore causing once-loyal customers to switch manufacturers.
Sorority president and former Nutella addict Lauren Smith says, “I used to include Nutella into every meal, but Speculoos cookie butter has really changed the game for me. I love that perfect chocolate and hazelnut combination so much, but thinking about it being discontinued…I literally can’t.”
Many people share the same sentiments as Lauren Smith, and Nutella is aware that they will lose their fan base as well. CEO of Ferrero, Luigi Carbonara, said with tears in his eyes, “We know everyone loves Nutella, but we want to move in a more savory direction. Keep your eyes peeled for our new Nutella BBQ rub. It’ll make you forget all about the chocolate-hazelnut perfection you can spread on every breakfast item you can imagine.”
What will be the future of Nutella? Which knock-off will become the new favorite? It’s time to load up on the goods before they run out forever.
But before you all storm the Nutella aisle, just remember, APRIL FOOLS!
