McDonald’s Adds New Spicy McMuffin To The Menu

Oatmeal and cereal can only do so much when you’re trying to find something tasty to eat on the go. The evolution of fast-food breakfast has picked up over the years with Wendy’s being the last chain to feature a morning menu so customers did not have to get a burger, fries, and large Dr. Pepper at 9 a.m. Meanwhile, McDonald’s had been ahead of the game nationally since the 70s and made sure they provided customers with a ‘Continental Breakfast’ experience.

Other than having addictive hashbrowns and the crispiest cokes, McDonald’s rise to fame started from humble beginnings with serving up orders of burgers and fries to the masses. Unfortunately, not every McDonald’s has an all-day breakfast option, but the concept was a customer favorite because of the menu’s affordable and family-friendly items like the Sausage Biscuit, Hotcakes, or — its first-ever breakfast sandwich — the Egg McMuffin

Herb Peterson, owner and operator of a McDonald’s in Santa Barbara, California, gifted the world the original Egg McMuffin sandwich which has been a savory Canadian bacon and cheesy egg combo since 1971. Starting July 8, Peterson’s OG sandwich is getting an upgrade as it celebrates 50 years, so here’s what to know about the item’s glow-up and how to get your hands on one.

What is included on the new spicy McMuffin?

McDonald’s knew customers were craving something on the spicier side when they introduced the Hot ‘n Spicy McChicken Biscuit, so to stay true with keeping things hot for the summer there will be three Spicy McMuffin breakfast sandwiches added to the menu. For a limited time at participating restaurants, McDonald’s will be serving a dollop of its signature Spicy Pepper Sauce on the Egg McMuffin, the Spicy Sausage McMuffin, and the Spicy Sausage McMuffin with Egg.

The original Egg McMuffin will feature its toasty muffin and iconic fried egg, melted cheese, and Canadian bacon with a shot of the fiery and savory sauce. Customers have the option to try the combination with the Spicy Sausage McMuffin as well if they’re looking for that extra kick to help start the morning with a bang.

How can I get the new spicy McMuffin?

To kick off the Egg McMuffin’s 50-year celebration, the three new breakfast sandwiches will hit menus and be available to purchase for a limited time starting July 8 at McDonald’s nationwide. These new and improved sandwiches are expected to be around the same price as its parent items on the McValue menu so you can expect them to be around $6 if not included in a meal deal. Whether you’re ordering at the window or through the app, this new menu item should turn up the heat even more to add to an already hot summer.
