McDonald’s is home to a ton of iconic sandwiches — the Big Mac, the McGriddle, and of course, the McChicken. There’s just something about the McChicken that makes it so much better than any other fast food chicken sandwich. Maybe it’s the slather of mayonnaise, or the sprinkle of lettuce, or the deliciously seasoned chicken patty. But sometimes I find myself wishing there was more chicken, and that the sandwich itself was bigger. Luckily, the Chicken Big Mac is coming to the McDonald’s menu. It’s a popular menu item in other countries, and it’s finally making its way over to the US. It’s every McChicken lover’s dream sandwich.
What is the Chicken Big Mac?
As implied by the name, the Chicken Big Mac takes on the form of the iconic McDonald’s burger, but replaces the beef with chicken. The sandwich has three pieces of bun, some lettuce, cheese, and two chicken patties. Instead of mayonnaise, Big Mac sauce is smothered on the patties, making a beautiful combination of McDonald’s best meat and best sauce. It also seems that the chicken patties are more fried in comparison to the patties used in the McChicken, as the Big Mac uses tempura chicken patties.
McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski describes the Chicken Big Mac as having a crunchiness that the Big Mac lacks. “It just gives a little bit of a different mouth feel,” Kempczinski said in a recent video where he compared both Big Macs.
Kempczinski also said that the original Big Mac is “the perfect sandwich,” but the Chicken Big Mac “is now going to try to give it a run for its money.” As both a Big Mac and McChicken lover, I don’t know how I’m going to choose between them.
The Chicken Big Mac has become so popular in other countries, such as the UK and Australia, that it had to be discontinued because of supply issues. That just goes to show how delicious it is. TikToker Shima Wilson managed to get her hands on one after it was discontinued in New Zealand, and she was not disappointed.
American customers got to have a taste of the Chicken Big Mac back in 2022 when McDonald’s tested the menu item in Miami. Clearly it was a hit, because now all of the US will get to enjoy it.
When will the Chicken Big Mac be available?
Although McDonald’s hasn’t officially announced the news yet, the famous food blogger Snackolater somehow broke the news earlier this week on Instagram.
No specific date has been set for the release of the Chicken Big Mac, but fans can expect it to arrive on menus sometime in 2024. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled and getting my hands on one as soon as it touches US ground.
