Sure, you could have fancy sliced cheddar cheese from your grocery store's deli or nearby farmer's market in your fridge. Or, you could opt for the flimsy, cellophane-wrapped "cheese product" that has become iconic in school lunches, otherwise known as the Kraft Single. Perfect for nostalgia-inducing grilled cheese sandwiches and wrapping your dog's pills they refuse to take, there's just nothing else that tastes, feels like, or cooks down like these American slices. For fans of the grocery store item, you might have to wait for your store to re-stock them in the fridge section, because Kraft voluntarily recalled its Kraft Singles on September 19.

Why did Kraft Heinz recall Kraft singles?

Kraft-Heinz is taking 83,800 cases of Singles off of store shelves due to a factory issue. According to a press release, "The voluntary recall comes as a precaution after a temporary issue developed on one of our wrapping machines, making it possible that a thin strip of the individual film may remain on the slice after the wrapper has been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could be unpleasant and potentially cause a gagging or choking hazard."

The company details that they were made aware of the issue after six complaints were filed in relation to choking or gagging.

Products impacted by the recall include the following information: 16-ounce Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with an individual package UPC of 0 2100061526 1 and a “Best When Used By” date of 10 JAN 24 through 27 JAN 24. Individual packages in this recall will contain an S and 72 in the manufacturing code.

If you recently purchased a 16-ounce package with this corresponding information, you can return it to the store of purchase for a refund, or you can directly call the Kraft Heinz company.

If you must have your Kraft Singles, check your grocery store aisle first to make sure the recalled product is truly off the display shelves. Also, the Velveeta slices are a great dupe for delicious cheese that really isn't cheese at all. I don't know, I am not asking questions, I just need that good "cheese" pull.
