Hot Honey Eggs Are The New Best Egg Style

When it comes to breakfast foods, eggs are unbeatable in versatility. Scramble (or framble) them, fry them, hard-boil them, turn them into omelets and egg-y casseroles and sandwiches. The possibilities are pretty much endless, and thanks to the internet foodies, we have a new way to spice up the egg routine — with hot honey. “Hot honey eggs” are filling the pans of TikTok, combining eggs with honey and cheese to make the perfect sweet and savory (and filling!) breakfast. How can you make them, you ask? We’ve got you covered with the instructions below.

How do you make hot honey eggs?

Hot honey eggs are like an omelet’s more fabulous cousin, and thankfully, there aren’t many steps between starting the recipe to your mouth. Just heat up a pan and drizzle hot honey across it (zig-zag or swirling, take your pick). Then, cover the entire bottom of the pan with mozzarella cheese and crack two or three eggs on top. Season the eggs with salt and pepper before rolling half of the egg on top of the other half of the egg. Top with some spring onions or chives if you’re feeling especially fancy. Sweet and spicy, cheesy eggs? What’s not to like?

There are also all kinds of ways to customize your hot honey eggs. Plenty of people are adding chili crisp on top of the honey (maybe as a substitute for actual hot honey). Others are sliding their hot honey eggs onto toast for a tasty open-faced breakfast sandwich. A few users have also added vegetables like tomatoes or onions. And if you’re looking for a protein kick, one user recommended adding ham (I think sausage or bacon would also be fantastic).

What are people saying about the trend?

Listen, there are a lot of food trends out there that have me raising an eyebrow, so my first thought was, are these eggs all they’re cracked up to be? But hot honey eggs seem to have captured the hearts of the people. User @the_foodiediaries commented that “this shouldn’t work…but it’s EGGSCELLENT.” Another user, @alexawhat’sfordinner, described the eggs, saying, “the bottom of the eggs become a caramelized, sweet, cheesy, and spicy flavor…such a good breakfast.”

User @polosjunkjournal noted, “I love it when a viral recipe actually tastes good…I absolutely love how crispy the bottom gets and the sweet and savory flavor combination.” Commenters seemed equally enthused at the trendy recipe, with @oceane_42x saying, “I hate omelets but that looks really tasty” and @sitosnavlogs saying, “Uffff drool worthy!!😍”

These eggs have flipped the breakfast world sunny side up, so it sounds like I’m going to have to make like a chicken and cross the road into trying this trend before the major FOMO takes over.
