Glen Powell might be known for acting in movies like Twisters and Anyone But You, but foodies now have a reason to to love him beyond his on-screen performances. Powell recently announced that he is taking his talents to the kitchen and releasing his own line of condiments called Smash Kitchen, which features a mix of classic sauces and some spicier twists. Based on the flavors alone, Glen Powell’s condiment line is a must-try, whether you’re a cook yourself or a fan of his on-screen charm.
What is Glen Powell’s condiment line?
Powell’s new line of condiments is called Smash Kitchen, and it features eight different sauces. Smash Kitchen boasts all the classics, including Classic Tomato Ketchup, Yellow Mustard, Real Mayonnaise, and American Style BBQ Sauce. In addition to condiment mainstays, Powell also made sure to include a few spicier options, like Hot Honey Ketchup, Dijon Mustard, Spicy Mayonnaise, and Hot Honey BBQ Sauce.
The Smash Kitchen sauce flavors are carefully curated by Powell himself, who is an avid barbecue lover. According to Powell, The Hot Honey BBQ Sauce was actually inspired by his dog, Brisket, who is named after the classic barbecue meal.
What makes Glen Powell’s condiment line unique?
While these condiments might sound like sauces you can already find in the store, Smash Kitchen’s mission separates Powell’s new brand from other condiment lines. The brand aims to use organic and non-GMO ingredients in its sauces, while still keeping prices affordable. Each Smash Kitchen sauce is made with clean ingredients, such as organic eggs and local produce, and the condiments don’t contain any artificial ingredients or high fructose corn syrup, unlike other larger brands, such as Heinz. Powell told Food & Wine that every ingredient on the Smash Kitchen nutrition label is not only recognizable, but something you can easily pronounce.
What inspired Glen Powell to release Smash Kitchen?
As a native Texan, Powell’s love for food is nothing new, and the actor’s southwestern upbringing gave him some inspiration when making his line of sauces. Beyond the flavor inspiration, though, Powell credits his family with helping him come up with the name for the condiment line. He told People Magazine that after dinner parties, his family would always say “Damn, that was a smash.” And thus, the name “Smash Kitchen” was born.
Beyond the name, Powell’s drive to create a cleaner, more affordable sauce without losing any flavor inspired the creation of Smash Kitchen after he started noticing just how many overly processed ingredients were in the sauces and condiments he was eating daily.
Where can I buy Smash Kitchen sauces?
For now, Smash Kitchen is sold exclusively at Walmart, at prices ranging from $1.97 to $4.97. The brand plans to hit other stores and retailers in the future, and Powell teased that he has a lot more coming this fall. For now, though, you can buy Smash Kitchen at your local Walmart, or online via the Walmart website — and I’ll be grabbing the Hot Honey BBQ as soon as possible.
