Would you drop a C-note for a doughnut?

This is the question I asked myself and pretty much everyone I know when I heard there was a $100 Doughnut being served up at Birdie’s LA.

I’m not rolling in the dough like Beyonce, so when I was offered the opportunity to indulge in this form culinary opulence I jumped at it.

Birdie’s makes two kinds of doughnuts: cake doughnuts and yeast doughnuts (like Krispy Kreme’s only better).

The $100 doughnut is a cinnamon cake doughnut topped with champagne cream cheese icing and layered with a whooping 8 sheets of 24k gold and I was lucky enough to get to watch as it was being made just for me. As I watched Chef Jake make it, I thought to myself this must be how Beyonce feels like everyday. #totes

You can watch the whole doughnut making process (and how Chef Jake makes their incredible fried chicken sandwiches) below.

In addition to the $100 gold doughnut I devoured, I also got to try every single flavor of every doughnut in this joint. #don’tjudgeme

Here are my absolute favorites that you have got to try like now… like seriously, book a flight if you are not already in LA.

Oreo Cookie

The Oreo doughnut is filled with a light and fluffy and just slightly sweet pastry cream mixed delicately with Oreo cookie dust and is topped with more crushed Oreos. I swear it is literally like eating an Oreo cloud. I loved it so much. It is now everything to me.

Strawberry White Chocolate

This doughnut has an icing so delicious I almost can not describe it adequately. It is bursting with the flavor of fresh strawberry purchased from the farmers market early in the morning and white chocolate. I mean you can actually taste the freshness of the berries and trust me it really is absolutely unbelievable.

Triple Dark Chocolate

The triple dark chocolate doughnut is amazing and truly lives up to its name and expectations. It starts off very subtle and the chocolate flavor intensifies as it reaches the back of your palette.

Lemon Thyme Pistachio

I tried the lemon thyme pistachio doughnut and I didn’t really expect the flavor of the pistachio to come through because it can sometimes be such a subtle flavor especially in baked goods but it actually came through and it was absolutely delicious. I don’t know how the hell they did that.

Maple Candy Bacon

The maple candy bacon doughnut is everything you’d expect from sweet maple syrup icing and crispy, salty, crunchy bacon.

Final thoughts:

I love Birdie’s artisanal doughnuts. And the $100 24k gold doughnut is super cool and is something everyone should treat themselves to for a special occasion. For my C-Note tho, I will take 25 Oreo cookie donuts to go please!
