Cool Sips Has A New Location In NYC & Their Poppi Collab Is A Must-Try

While the drive-thru dirty soda shops of Utah have influenced many on social media, the trend has definitely made its mark on the East Coast too. Cool Sips, a three-store chain of dirty soda shops in New York City, has just expanded into Soho with a brand new location as of August 21. To celebrate the grand opening, Cool Sips is teaming up with Poppi to create three limited-edition drinks made with their creamy mix-ins and different flavors of the fan-favorite prebiotic soda. The collab has even sponsored an exclusive pop-up event next month to give select customers custom merch and some even bigger prizes.

What is a dirty soda?

Originating in Utah in 2010, “dirty soda” became a custom daytime drink made from a mix of name brand sodas and flavored syrups. The concept of making sweet, non-alcoholic concoctions became most popular within the Mormon community as rules against drinking alcohol or caffeine made soda the common base for creative and appropriate mixology. Shops like Swig, which just specialize in dirty soda, started to establish as drive-thrus all across the West Coast.

What is the story behind Cool Sips?

The buzz around dirty soda grew bigger on social media, especially after the release of the hit TV docuseries, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Routine visits to Swig and other dirty soda shops inspired viewers all over to try creating their own variations of the concoctions at home. Realizing how delicious these combinations could be, bigger cities like New York began to hop on the trend, leading to the opening of Cool Sips. Now with three locations across Manhattan, the city’s first standalone dirty soda shop has expanded into Soho at 156 Sullivan Street.

What are the limited-edition drinks?

Exclusively found at Cool Sips’ Soho location, you can find three custom dirty soda drinks featuring Poppi prebiotic sodas for a limited time. Boardwalk Buzz features Poppi’s Classic Cola flavor with blue raspberry, coconut, and sweet cream. Tropic Like It’s Hot combines Punch Pop Poppi with lime, pineapple, and sweet cream. Campfire Crush is a mix of Doc Pop Poppi and strawberry, toasted marshmallow, and vanilla cream.

Can I customize my drink order?

Whether you’re ordering one of the limited-edition Poppi drinks or a classic Cool Sips dirty soda, you can customize any order at the shop to make it sugar free. I visited the Soho location last week for a sneak peek with a friend and she was able to order her Tropic Like It’s Hot without the cream. Dirty sodas are made to be customizable, so Cool Sips encourages customers to mix and match flavors they love.

When is the giveaway and how can I enter?

To continue the excitement of the Soho location opening from August 21, Cool Sips is hosting a giveaway on September 13, 2025. The first 100 guests to visit the Soho shop will get a tote bag and free drink coupon for any location. But on top of the pop-up, some totes will include a golden ticket inside that corresponds to an even bigger prize. From free drinks for a week, to custom merch, and even Cool Sips gift cards, don’t miss the event if you’re around NYC in September.
