Oreo Just Released Its First-Ever Sweet & Savory Cookie

We all know and love the nostalgia of our favorite childhood snacks. From fruity cereals to cheesy chips, there was nothing quite like the feeling of finding your fave snack packed in your lunchbox by your mom. And what’s carried into adulthood for most is a consistent and undying love for Oreo. These sandwich cookies are nothing short of iconic, and you can’t beat the classic black and white Oreo dunked in milk. But Oreo has stepped up its game and is now offering its first-ever sweet and savory flavor, Chocolate Covered Pretzel. If you’re scared to stray from the tried and true Original or Double Stuffed, I promise this limited-edition release will change your mind.

What is the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreo flavor?

The Oreo brand announced this limited-edition cookie on April 23 via Instagram to perfectly blend sweet and salty for a unique flavor innovation. The Oreo Chocolate Covered Pretzel sandwich cookies consist of pretzel-flavored cookies stuffed with chocolate-flavored creme and topped with salt. Contrary to Oreo’s previous limited-edition flavors, like Cotton Candy and Cinnamon Bun, Chocolate Covered Pretzel is the brand’s first sweet and savory flavor.

When can I buy the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreos?

Oreo has always made recurring grocery list appearances for sweet treat lovers, so keep your eyes peeled on May 5 when the new flavor releases in stores nationwide. Chocolate Covered Pretzel will only be available in the US and while supplies last, so don’t wait too long to get your hands on what could be your new favorite Oreo flavor.

Why did Oreo pick Chocolate Covered Pretzel?

Foodies have long deemed sweet and salty as the “best of both worlds” in terms of taste bud experiences. Oreo has long been aware of this preference, and Chocolate Covered Pretzel wasn’t picked at random. The brand carefully combed through consumer reports on sensory experiences while snacking and different flavor profiles, which seems long overdue after years of strictly sweet flavors. According to the 2024 Mondelez State of Snacking Report, 81% of consumers agree, “I pay attention to the sensory experience of my snacks,” making chocolate-covered pretzels a quick bite consumers crave.

How did social media react?

Oreo definitely knows what its audience wants and releasing a sweet and salty fusion has definitely been received well thus far. In a post shared on April 23 via Oreo’s Instagram page, fans were stoked about the announcement of the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Oreos, leaving positive comments to boost the excitement on social media. Digital creator Skylar Mann (@skylarmmann) shared, “Stop it right now!! This sounds so good!” and YouTube family channel Scattered Adventures (@scatteredadventures) said “Omg, can’t wait to try them!” In this short-form video announcement, fans also commented on the flavor breakdown, saying things like “I see the salt” and “sweet and salty is always a win.”
