In the villa of Love Island USA season 7, breakfast has become more than casual coffee and toast – it has turned into the battleground for the participants of this dramatic dating show to bare their arms. The morning ritual has become a standout moment in every episode packed with romantic gestures and petty rivalries. Here is a breakdown of the breakfast lineup and the drama that it fuels.
What does breakfast look like on Love Island USA?
Every episode, the islanders are awoken at the break of dawn and the boys head downstairs to whip up breakfast for the girls they are hoping to pursue. This often involves multiple plates per girl and a mix-up of whose coffee is whose.
A Love Island USA staple is avocado toast, often with eggs on the side. It’s simple, yet effective. As one of the easiest breakfasts to throw together, it does not go unnoticed when a boy isn’t putting in the bare minimum effort to make a girl feel recognized. The pressure of making breakfast spills into the villa and raises a provoking side-eye if someone drops the ball.
When Charlie first arrived at the villa as a bombshell, fans felt like he thought the girls would be all over him, but it appears that without delivering any of the girls breakfast during his first few days, they started to lose interest. Olandria said that he was going to have to “step it up” if he wanted any of the girls to show interest and she was right.
How breakfast has turned into more than just a meal.
As if hand-delivering a delicious plate of the most important meal of the day is not enough, this season, the islanders have stepped up to the plate to make their breakfast festivities go above and beyond.
One of the first love triangles in the villa was between Chelley, Austin, and Ace. These boys would compete for Chelley’s affection and they knew they had to take it upon themselves for her to sway to either of their sides. This competition was made abundantly clear in their breakfast battles.
Ace’s version of “above and beyond” was a hibachi-style breakfast. While this only consisted of eggs and bacon, he had the right idea. While he was cheffing up a luxurious hibachi breakfast, Austin had already delivered Chelley a plate of eggs, toast, and fruit. They said “all is fair in love and war,” but in reality, it’s up to Chelley to choose which she prefers: an extravagant hibachi date or a cozy breakfast for two.
Next we have the infamous no-protein pancake debacle. Not only did Jeremiah give Huda pancakes without protein, but they were also undercooked, and she had another boy, Taylor, help her make a new batch. I mean talk about drama. As Nic pointed out to Jeremiah, “the biggest problem you guys had is another man making her a pancake.” Because of the arguments that this pancake incident caused, some of the boys were willing to vote Huda out of the villa. If that doesn’t show the power that breakfast has over these islanders, I’m not sure what will.
One of the most significant examples of dramatic pettiness for breakfast so far in this season was between Nic, Elan, and Cierra, who has since left the villa for “personal reasons,” but it is suspected that it was due to the use of a racial slur on her Instagram before entering the villa. While away at Casa Amor, Elan made Cierra a pancake cut into the shape of the letter C, and once Nic got wind of this, he did the exact same thing. It is amazing how far a fun pancake can take someone in this TV show.
Why is breakfast causing do much drama?
Breakfast is one of the few completely unscripted, personal times that the production of the show captures, so every gesture counts. Whether it’s speed (Austin), spectacle (Ace), or sincerity (classic toast), breakfast becomes a mirror for who’s really into you and who is just playing the game.
This season, breakfast isn’t just breakfast. It is a simmering vessel of connection, competitiveness, and occasional chaos. Who’s cooking you pancakes? Who’s offering symbolic yoga-avocado-toast morning invites? In the villa, breakfast speaks volumes, and if you listen close enough, you may just hear who wants to take you to Soul Ties.
