What college student doesn't love going out to brunch? It practically gets me through the week. The only downside is that brunch can get pretty expensive, especially when you go every weekend. To me, brunch is important because it gets so busy throughout the week that sometimes it's hard to make time for friends, and brunch is that time of day that usually works for everybody and we can all get together. Lately, my friends and I have been wanting to take a cheaper approach to brunch so we've started hosting brunch in our apartments, and honestly, I might enjoy it more than going out for brunch. You can stay in your pajamas, make whatever you want, sleep in a little more, and save money. Read along so that I can teach you why brunch at home is better than going out!

What To Eat

The star of the show at any brunch is pancakes or waffles. My roommates and I like to make mini chocolate chip waffles with this dorm-friendly mini waffle maker. To make things easier, we buy a pre-made pancake or waffle mix.

We're also big fans of Trader Joe's croissants and biscuits. Just make sure to pop them in the oven for a little bit to warm them up.

SpoonTip: Whip up some eggs, bacon, or sausage and make a biscuit sandwich.

If that's not enough, be sure to put out hash browns, scones, or fruit

What To Drink

Mimosas...obviously. But if you're like us and you're under 21, a great alternative is mixing equal parts Sprite or Ginger ale with orange juice.

Lattes pair perfectly with any brunch platter, I make mine using an espresso machine, but a cheap alternative is using a moka pot, an Italian method of making coffee. Try this one from Amazon.

Tea will go great with the scones and/or biscuits. Be sure you have some English breakfast tea on hand!

Setting Up

Having people over for brunch is fun and stress-free. Set your table for guests and place the food buffet-style on a counter. Better yet, have everyone come over beforehand and cook together, or have everybody bring something over to share, potluck style. Don't forget to wear pajamas and slippers!
