Everything’s bigger in Texas…and on the Texas Roadhouse menu. While the restaurant is a national steakhouse chain, the menu has more than a dozen sections. It includes ribs, chicken, and seafood, as well as fan-favorite appetizers and, of course, the famous rolls. Here’s what to order at Texas Roadhouse, whether you’re looking for a classic steak or need a more substantial entrée beyond the free bread.
Cactus Blossom
Yes, Texas Roadhouse is known for steak, but the appetizers might be the strongest section on the menu. This golden blooming onion, which is “Texas-sized” and perfect for sharing, comes with Cajun horseradish sauce and ranch for a crispy, crunchy start to your meal. Plus, you can say you got your veggies in.
Combo Appetizer Platter
This menu item might not sound exciting, but it’s the best way to get the most out of all the Texas Roadhouse appetizers. Although you can choose from five app options in the platter, there are three you should try: Tater Skins, Fried Pickles, and the fan-favorite Rattlesnake Bites, which are fried cheese balls filled with diced jalapeño peppers. Customers swear by it.
Grilled Shrimp Appetizer
You might be getting the sense Texas Roadhouse has everything, including seafood. This dish features grilled garlic lemon pepper shrimp on a skewer atop toasted bread, served with Cajun sauce for dipping. Appreciate the smaller size of this appetizer because things only get bigger from here.
Hand-Cut Sirloin
You’re likely more than halfway-full at this point, but you can’t come to a steakhouse without having steak. The hand-cut sirloin is one of the restaurant’s most popular, not only for its delicious flavor and tender texture but also for its value – an 8-ounce steak costs as little as $15 and includes two sides. As for steak options, this sirloin is also one of the most manageable options in terms of size, since you definitely want to save room for more.
Full Slab Ribs
Nothing says southwestern cuisine like tender, fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs. You can get a half-slab, but order the full-slab to embrace the Texas Roadhouse mentality. If you’re feeling indecisive, the menu also offers “Texas-size” combos — one of which features both the sirloin steak and a half-rack of ribs.
Chicken Critters
Tried-and-true chicken fans, this plate is for you. Don’t let the name or the simplicity throw you off, because these crispy golden tenders made with all-white meat are always reliable. Plus, you can choose two dips to pair your tenders with, including BBQ Sauce, ranch, honey mustard, hot sauce, and mild sauce. Like many other entrees, the chicken tenders are also available in combos, so feel free to pair them with steak, ribs, or shrimp.
Loaded Baked Potato
Every great steak dinner includes some variation of potato on the side. Go all in and top your baked potato with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and bacon. And, if you like it spicy, you can also top your tot with Texas red chili.
#SpoonTip: If you have a sweet tooth, you can order a sweet potato with honey cinnamon caramel sauce, toasted marshmallows, or honey cinnamon butter.
Texas Roadhouse Rolls
By this time, you’re probably stuffed from ribs and fried pickles, or maybe you just kept going back to the unlimited free rolls. These iconic rolls are freshly baked, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet that you can easily eat a dozen in one sitting. And while they’re flavorful enough to enjoy solo, the honey cinnamon butter — which immediately melts into the warm bread — takes them to the next level. No matter what appetizer or entree you choose, these rolls are why you come to Texas Roadhouse. IMO, no other restaurant’s bread hits the same.
