As someone who has been vegetarian since the eighth grade I have noticed I get nowhere near as excited for Thanksgiving dinner as the rest of my friends and family. They are stoked for turkey or ham, and I am here just like, “Where is the stuffing at?” So this is how a vegetarian feels during Thanksgiving Dinner.
1. Absolutely Stoked for Food
Right when you sit down after waiting all day to eat a huge meal and you are ready to eat your body weight in food.
2. Look for What You Can Actually Eat
The realization that the main part of the meal is going to be something with turkey or meat. Then there is the problem with asking if this has chicken broth in it.
3. Getting Asked Why You Aren’t Eating
Some friend or family member will inevitably forget that you don’t eat meat and wonder why you aren’t gorging on that turkey leg. It is bound to happen at least once.
4. Watching Everyone Else Eat Everything
Watching everyone else eat and eat can make you upset. There are always those die hard meat lovers who are eating everything in sight, while you are just sitting there going hard at the mashed potatoes.
5. When They Remember the Vegetarian Dish
Sometimes there is a godsend moment where the host realizes they forget the vegetarian meal. This is the best moment cause you know it is going to be good and you finally get that overstuffed feeling everyone else gets.
6. Dessert Comes Around You Have Plenty of Room
Since dinner may have been a sort of flop, dessert is really the time to have a feast. You didn’t stuff yourself with turkey like everyone else so you can eat all of the dessert you want.
Thanksgiving is a time to be with family and friends. Even if the meal isn’t the most vegetarian friendly make the most of it and never forget to make fun of the others at the table. So enjoy what you can of the meal and remember you have the most room for dessert.
