The Holidays Are Here & So Is Peppermint Milk

As pumpkin spice latte season winds down, many people turn to everything peppermint. Whether it’s peppermint tea or a peppermint mocha, nothing screams the holidays more than this festive flavor. Forget the typical peppermint you know and love and try peppermint milk. Yes, you read that right. Peppermint milk. Who knows, this candy cane concoction might become your new favorite easy-to-make holiday drink.

What is peppermint milk?

Peppermint milk is exactly what you think it is — peppermint-flavored milk. All you need to make it is either starlight mints or candy canes, and, well, milk. A non-dairy milk substitute of your choice almond milk, oat milk, you name it will also work just fine to make a sweet glass of peppermint milk while still abiding by any dietary restrictions or preferences you may have.

To make peppermint milk, take about five starlight mints or inch-long chunks of a candy cane and place them in a glass of milk. Use more mints if you want to make the drink extra peppermint-y, and double or triple the number if making a larger amount of it. Stir the mixture and allow it to sit in the refrigerator for about an hour. When you take the milk mixture out, strain the mints out and you have new festively flavored milk ready to be used to spice up the holiday season.

#SpoonTip: If the drink isn’t pink enough for you after straining the mints out, add a drop or two of red food coloring.

What do you do with peppermint milk?

Since peppermint milk is so simple, it can be served and used in many different ways. Content creator @makeitwithmicah decided to add a little food coloring to her peppermint milk to make it extra pink, and lined the rim of the glass with crushed candy canes. Use melted chocolate, honey, or simple syrup to coat the rim of the glass to make the crushed peppermints stick.

To create a warm drink for the colder months, try steaming the milk and topping it with whipped cream or cold foam. It could also be added to hot coffee, tea, or hot chocolate to add a hint of holiday sweetness to your classic drink.

Looking for a drink to offer at your Christmas party this year? Peppermint milk has also got you covered. Combine it with a peppermint-flavored liqueur and some club soda to create a drink fizzing with holiday spirit.

Not looking to create a fancy drink with peppermint milk? Don’t worry. It also pairs perfectly with any holiday treat, like cookies, gingerbread, or even peppermint bark for an extra burst of peppermint flavor. Dip it in your favorite sweet treat to add a taste of the holidays to your usual routine with minimal work and two simple ingredients.
